I agree Rick, the fact that this stupid pageant is going on when a "Little Miss Caucasian Delaware" would have the race baiting lefties going crazy is bizarre.

Haitians ARE West Indians...just as Dominicans (unique language as well, but geographically they technically are West Indian) are and Jamaicans, Trinis so forth and so on...

EDIT: And the "language" aspect really doesn't hold water because all Haitians speak is a broken form of French (Haitian Creole)...The Jamaicans speak broken English...does that make them NOT West Indian?
Haitians vary when it comes to identifying as West Indian. It's their choice anyway.
Kreyol is language arising from a mix of languages/linguistic influences, not simply broken French. Jamaicans speak what they refer to as "patois" which is also a mix of languages/linguistic influences.
So illegals protest when we require "proper documentation" but strip a child of a pageant crown for not proving her heritage with "papers"...my how rich.

Not sure what you mean exactly, but this is an interesting point. That Italians saw her as foreign is obvious. But I don't think Italy in general saw her as being any different than a Somali, Moroccan, Ethiopian or Sudanese, who are African foreigners whose population in Italy is more abundant than the Dominican. It's more of a North American-like thing - she has black blood, she is not from Italy, she is no different than the blackest of the black. Denny claiming in Italian that she is not black (and I distinctly remember her saying this) had no impact on the real issue of her beauty (and the sista was and is spectacular) not being considered representative of Italian beauty.
Sure. I have seen and heard Dominicans laud their African roots. But they are a distinct minority.
Dominicans and Cape Verdeans have similar branding of being self-hating. A lot of it is because there is a lot of self-hate in both cultures. Didn't know of many Dominicans in the Netherlands, but there are plenty of Cape Verdeans there.
Of course. On some levels that self-hate is endemic to all Afro-Atlantic (and African in general) populations.
There is a serious antihaitianismo there, but race ties in pretty strongly with the national/ethnic antipathy Dominicans have toward Haitians.
Haitians have the worst of it in many countries. My family moved from Haiti to Cuba after the revolutions, but they were light mulatto, so eastern Cuba was pretty welcoming to them.
I was just thinking about cape verdeans today. there was a friend of mine who loved Nelly Furtado, because she is of Portuguese descent. my friend has cape Verdean parents. the love affair between Portuguese and CV is a one way street.

Hmm, well considering that there are various populations in Italy that have swathier or darker skin tones and mixed looks especially in Sicily and Southern Italy, I'd think that that might complexity the issue at hand, shall we say!....
There are also Jewish populations that have been there since ancient times (known as the auctonous "Bene Italkim") in addition to later arriving Sephardi Jews, and later Azhkenazic sects. There are many of the Jewish populations that have looks similar Denny. So it all depends.
Also do you have any links that showcase her facing racism and/or discrimination? Do you have any links on where she specifically said she is not black? There is a difference between denying African ancestry and outright denying that one is black. Just because someone has some African ancestry, does not make them black or soley black all alone by itself.
North Africans are often percieved differently than those from Sub Saharan African nations.
Next, did it ever come to you that perhaps that xenophobia could be why Denny or other immigrants face discrimination because they are not from there rather than their race?
A white Spaniard living in Italy could face hate because they are not originally from Italy. Xenophobia is not the same as racism.
In regards to racism in Italy, yes I'm aware of the fact that it exists there. Hell, racism is a global thing.
In fact an Italian woman who is of full Sub Saharan African (I think from Congo or DRC) origin recently received threats and hate mail and racist comments and attacks since she was elected to a high position in Italian government house etc. That is one of the serious cases of racism in recent times that I have heard of.

I honestly don't care if I can or not, I'm talking about the stupidity of the race baiters. There is no "hispanic" race and that words needs to be removed from the census. If you want to check Spanish, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, etc... for ethnicity, that's great! Stop the race-baiting BS. If I can't enter my daughter in a "Little Miss Hispanic" contest, then we should be able to have a "Little Miss Caucasian" contest. I wouldn't put my daughter in one of those things; I'm just saying because of the ethnocentric madness.

There is no caucasion (white) culture per se. Whites can be English, German, French etc. They do not share a common culture. Their native languages are all different and so are their cultural practices. Hispanics can be white or partially white as their ancestors originated in Spain. Their native language is Spanish and their cultural practices are different from the other nationalities that I mentioned.
