You and I likely have drastically different interpretations of fit. I would fire both my personal chef and trainer if that's the best I looked after 5+ years. There's nothing wrong with having either a chef or a personal trainer, but you should get MUCH better results if you have both. There are three key parts to fitness: nutrition, exercise, and sleep, and it would appear she's not maximizing her returns on the first two.

Michelle is likely an endomorph (someone who struggles with their weight, and tends to have a large body with curves), but there are diets and workout plans that help with that. I don't see that at work here. That's why people roll their eyes when she delivers a nutrition "mandate" like the ones she did with school lunches. I'm wiling to bet she has a minimal -- likely VERY minimal -- understanding of the relationship between macronutrient ratios, the timing of those macronutrients, and their role in weight gain/loss. And I don't think her understanding of micronutrients is much better.
Well, at least you acknowledge she's the most fit in years. I don't see many 50+ women in real life that look half that good.

And no one is listening.

When your plan doesn't work just ignore the outcome ?

This article is from 2011.
I'm in the schools and I do lunch duty and I see all the untouched food being thrown out.
The kids aren't allowed to not take them. The kids have no choice here so they just throw it out.

But you go ahead and "feel good" about the program.
Listen, kids have been throwing away uneaten crap school cafeteria food for 40 years. Have you ever had any? I had lunch at my son's elementary school about 10 years ago and, immediately afterward, began packing his lunches. Greasy chicken nuggets (made of Gawd knows what); greasy fries, UGH.

It was crap 40 years ago and it's crap today.

What IS new?

It's a somewhat hollow victory for her -- akin to being the tallest midget in the room.

I see at least a dozen women age 50+ on a weekly basis at the gym that look far better. It honestly isn't rocket science: burn more calories than you take in, mix in some resistance training along with interval training, and you're well on the way.

Good Lord! What is this focus on Michelle Obama's looks?

Ha! Ask the media, they are the ones fawning over her.

When you work out a lot, especially in a gym with free weights, you see far better. I'm just simply stating the case that she's definitely not all that.

The point of this thread is the kids stopped eating because healthy food..

If a parent does not understand what their responsibiltiy is, then why do they have a child?

Well -- I actually agree that if the government is going to feed kids, it should be nutritious food and not junk food but feeding their children is the duty of the parents.

If the kids want to bring junk food --- as long as the taxpayers aren't having to also pay for food that just ends up in the garbage.

I'm not against First Ladies having benign and even helpful projects like this. Mrs Johnson wanted highways too look nice -- no one criticized that. Mrs Reagan worked against drug use and that was fine. Mrs Bush worked for literacy. I don't see the problem with better eating for kids -- as long as the money isn't going to waste.

^^Childhood nutrition, espoused by any other first lady, would not be considered controversial.

Your beef (no pun intended) with the school lunch program is about 70 years too late. Remember, too, that part of the purpose of the program is to give farmers a market for their products.
