"No-Fee ID Card Program

After January 1, 2014, you will be able to apply for a free NC identification card to be used for voting. To qualify, you will need to:
  • Prove your age and identity.
  • Prove your NC residency.
  • Be registered to vote in North Carolina.
  • Not have a valid driver license.
This form of NC ID card will be valid for voting and for identification purposes only. You will apply using the same documents (proof of name, birth date, Social Security, and residency) as listed above."

"MD Identification Card Fees

The fees for new, renewed or duplicate Maryland ID cards vary.
  • Older than 65 years old: ID Card is free.
  • Disabled: ID Card is free.
I didn't bother to look up any others but, I would NOT be surprised to find more if did.

How does that CROW taste?

Birth certificates still cost money, I've never heard of a free one.

I challenge the media to present a dozen such people---they don't exist.
If they are that detached from society, I hope they don't vote for the sake of the country!

Sometimes it's as simple as $$$ and lazy and stupid have nothing to do with it. Cost me $63 to renew mine and I went without it for a year until I could fork over the money.

They are probably not all republican districts but sure looks like they have a large majority, I haven't heard of a democratic controlled state losing a lawsuit,

Alabama and Texas couldn't wait to redraw them maps, the ink wasn't even dry on the supreme court decision removing section 5. Both lost in court decisions.

The dems held the House of representatives for 40 STRAIGHT YEARS, through 4 Censuses.

The HOUSE is responsible for voting districts.

If you believe the did NOT gerrymander in ANY of those districts , I have a bridge to sell you.

How do you think the dems held control for such a long uninterrupted period?

I used MD as an example. Look up Anne Arundel county and its district history.

You may have needed an ID to sign up for SS ten years ago but it can arrive via direct deposit or via pre-paid cards. The ID that you used to sign up for SS may have expired.
"but the ID you need to get treatment does not need to be valid."

Depends on the STATE.

most of these discussion are about the "poor".

In today's world many have either Medicare or Medicade.

If you have go to the doctor you have been going to for YEARS and hae a problem he cannot treat, you will be referred to a "specialist"

If you have NOT been to that specialist before, there is good chance you have NOT, you will need a SALID PHOTO ID.

The number of people who fall into the "group" that might have a difficulty in getting a valid Photo ID, IMO, is so SMALL it isn't worth all this discussion.

"The point is that a decent segment of poor minorities do not and this was specifically done to make it difficult for them to vote."

What a bunch of racist B.S.

What makes a "poor minority" any different then a poor white or any race for that matter?

This question has been asked NUMEROUS times in all these forums and it is NEVER answered.

"Ok, explain to me how one does vote multiple times."

I would NOT claim "multiple" time but certainly 2 times.

I know people who did NOT get their old states drivers license taken by the DMV when they moved to another state and got a NEW license in that new state.

Therefore they have 2 driver's licenses.

The CAN vote in both state if they wish.

Many want a college student ID to be a valid ID for voting.

A school ID does NOT have ANYTHING to do with where you are "resident".

You can have a driver's license from your registration home state and vote there AND if college ID is taken as valid WITHOUT changing your "residence" in that state, and you go to school "out of state" you could vote AGAIN in the schools state.

This a "lame" excuse , IMO and used OFTEN.

How does this person get her groceries?

How does she get to the doctors?

"and need assistance getting to the DMV"

Is she in assisted living quarters?

if so MANY provide "assistance " to the voting places.

So they need assistance. So what? They get it.

What is the big deal?

It's funny that when ID is needed to apply for welfare or food stamps, there seems to be no problem in obtaining one.

"Sounds like"

You should NOT make assumption.

Sounds like you DON'T know what you are whining about, AGAIN.

"Sometimes it's as simple as $$$ and lazy and stupid have nothing to do with it. Cost me $63 to renew mine and I went without it for a year until I could fork over the money." You should NOT have LOST your original. Sounds "lazy and stupid" to me.

You live in liberal la-la land and complain about how your liberal politician control things, impose fees, taxes, etc., and yet, you STILL voter them time after time.

Instead of suppressing voters, why not make it a priority to get their votes.
As has been said before, apply the SAME laws, rules restrictions etc, to the 2nd amendment as you WANT for the 1st amendment.

Are you OK with that?
