She had a weapon pointed at them. How long do you take when you have a weapon pointed at you before you respond? You seem to be dodging this question over and over. Unless you have video of her not doing this you are siding with a criminal which is "SOP" for you.
There are many similar cases where NO ONE gets shot.
Why the quotes? The news reports have said that she had an extensive history of assaults and drug charges.
From the report, which is all we have to go on, she was having an mental illness issue. As much as some seem to want to make it so, that does not make you a criminal.
The police do not determine that. We do not determine that. A court system with due process determines that.
If it was determined that she was mentally incompetent, it would not be a criminal act.
Wait what? So the police need to call a time out and get the courts involved when someone is pointing a gun at them. ROFLMAO!!! For a minute I thought you were serious. You should do comedy. That post is priceless.
The facts were that she had a weapon aimed at police. The facts were that she refused to drop the weapon.
Her husband "said" she was armed with a BB gun. That is not a fact, but instead it is hearsay. Just as the family of the Charlotte victim "said" he was unarmed and only had a book.
Sounds like "suicide by cop" by a mentally ill person.
If the husband actually said "She has a weapon." rather than "She has my BB pistol." It may be argued to be "assisted suicide by cop."
In the end, she pointed a pistol at police officers at 3:45AM in the morning. I'm pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference in dim light between her replica BB pistol and a 9mm Springfield XDM.
As soon as she pulled the trigger, there were be some explaining to do... then the truth would be out. "CLANK" vs "BANG"
As far as lethality of the .177 BB round, I would agree it's an astronomical anomaly that a .177 BB round would kill you from a BB pistol. I have been shot dozens of times with copper BBs from a BB PISTOL. They hurt and left a welt, but rarely broke my skin.
A high-powered .177 pellet rifle using a copper BB round could be potentially lethal to a human if you were shot in the eye and left to bleed out. I had to dig one out of my side before, it's not fun. Pellet guns go up to .50 cal and can be used to bring down hogs or small deer. Different weapons than what she had.
The question comes down to, how long do you let someone brandish a weapon before you open fire on them?
Does a police officer have to wait until the perpetrator actually discharges a round or injures someone before they shoot?
When does fear of one's personal safety or another's personal safety become self-defense vs murder?
What constitutes a reasonable amount of fear to flip the switch?
And while you're contemplating the situation, and mulling over whether the gun is real or not, and trying to decide if they're crazy enough, and considering if you can de-escalate the situation.......boom, you're dead.
From the report, which is all we have to go on, she was having an mental illness issue. As much as some seem to want to make it so, that does not make you a criminal.
Having a mental illness not not exempt anyone from being a criminal. The moment she refused orders to drop her weapon, she became a criminal.
