If I remember right the whole issue was about redefining the word "marriage", not that most people cared if gay couples had a legal union or not. Honestly I didn't see why the fight over the word was even a thing but it was less about equality and more about creating the idea that there is no difference between people. Of course there is, and it's obvious, but we try to use language to pretend otherwise. That doesn't always work.
I don't care what happens in people's bedrooms. Marriage isn't about what happens in the bedroom, it's a scared religious ceremony that has been practiced for thousands of years.
Now that the state stepped in on this, why cannot several hundred consenting women marry some rich guy? Or are you going to deflect the question again?
There are churches that do not recognize a second marriage, and no one is attempting to force them to. I suspect it will be the same with same-sex marriage. The religious aspect of marriage has been at the discretion of the individual church or denomination, and I suspect it always will be.
As for the legal rights and benefits conferred, yes, that is a government issue.
If you can find a hundred women who would like to marry you, I suppose you are welcome to try.
That must have been horrible for them! Imagine, having to keep a secret about something you truly feel with every fiber of your being, for fear of being labeled. Ridiculed in public, and even beaten to death!

Maybe for you it is, but for my wife and I, our marriage was a legal binding marriage from the state. Our marriage had no religious ceremony nor did we reference any gods in our wedding. Not sure why people think they need to impose their religion onto others when it comes to marriage.

Why do you have to impose your political beliefs on marriage and everything else. Marriage preceded the US government and many other governments.
