But if those unmarried coastal people are in college or grad school( which absolutely tends to be the case), they are putting off the things you listed until they get a high paying job after graduation.
Except Ive already shown that California is home to 3 of the 10 top metros for upward mobility. Most of the Top 10 are on the west or east coast.

Or they could graduate and get high paying jobs and then after a while get lured to Austin, Portland, Dallas or OH where tech is also doing well. Yes how do these enlightened ones not know that it's no longer NY or LA, SF or bust? Huge swathes of the country have developed. Moving out of CA isn't a tumble down the stairs downgrade anymore.

Sorry, maybe he or someone else responded. Piedmont is completely surrounded by the city of Oakland. The hoods bordering Piedmont are pretty similar - more or less. Point being is the if someone lives in Piedmont they have to do all of their shopping in Oakland b/c Piedmont does not have a commercial district. Well, there is a bank, gas station and mini-mart coffee shop, oh, and on the border with Oakland, an Ace Hardware. I'm guessing that most of the posters here are or would be afraid of Oakland b/c they think it is a city filled with violent people of color. Yes?
California is the 6th largest economy in the world. There is a serious issue with income inequality. That is a good point. It needs work. As a country, we'd be bigger than France and Russia. BTW. the US is the biggest economy in the world. I wonder how it would fare without California?
