I didn't say wrong, I said incompatible.

You know that this could apply to the bible too, right? Or any religion for that matter?

Not that I have an opinion either way. Just wanted to let you know that your bias is showing.

Again, we are probably splitting hairs.

While I am in a wonderful, and accepting church now, I miss my family so much I cry thinking of them. Because I know that without a miracle, I'll never see most of them again. I see my Mother every couple of years, but the rest of my family I'll never see.
But you realize the problem lies with them, not with you, right?

If the philosophy has baked into it bad ideas, then "abuse" is a symptom of the ideology itself, not abuse of the ideology.

Nazi-ism's call for the eradication of the Jewish people didn't lead to the holocaust because it was ABUSED. It directly flowed from the political philosophy.

With Christianity, fundamentalist Christianity is actually very similar to Buddhism. It was actually ABUSED by people who literally didn't heed Jesus' message. Ironically, though, the Popes and Kings of Europe going AGAINST Christianity's teachings (love thy enemy, turn the other cheek, etc.) is why Europe isn't ALREADY Islamic. Seeing as how Islam has spent 1400 years continuously occupying, colonizing, enslaving or attacking Europe and European peoples on one shore or another.

Had they "turned the other cheek" over the past 1400 years instead of fighting back, a grand mosque would stand where St. Peter's Basilica sits today. So i guess we should be thankful for that, since the enlightenment and modern era came out of Christendom.

I'm not even going to read the rest of the comments in this thread, because this question about thread repeating is more interesting. The question about why ANYONE regardless their religious backwardness or social ignorance would harbor ill-feeling toward people simply because they are of a different race, ethnic background, sexual orientation and/or even religion, is a question that morons can't stop asking. They can't understand the answer no matter how many times repeated anyway...

I just hope it isn't just us "liberals" who "square" with the problems of religion, bigotry, discrimination and intolerance. Fortunately, there are conservatives who know better as well!

As to these topics that are repeated as new threads in this forum, can anything else be expected since those who start new threads are not necessarily the same people who started them before? Somebody hears a news story or encounters some political issue on any given day, decides to start a new thread about what's on their mind..., what are the odds the topic hasn't been discussed in this forum before?

Slim-to-none unless the topic is a recent late-breaking news story. Right? Maybe that is the subject topic better suited for new threads rather than simply "Politics and Other Controversies."

In actual practice this is likely true.

Mine is a philosophical argument probably best left for elsewhere.

I pray your family will understand the horrific pain they caused you and realize the sins they committed.

I can only hope there will be healing and that your suffering will one day help others.

Some day you might give your testimony, and it might make the difference in other families and prevent others from going what you went through.

And, as always, I'm there for when you want a friend to talk with.

I can only say that those brave, defiant pronouncement on behalf of God based on the Bible are hateful.*Are they protected speech? Yes. Is it the free exercise of religion? Yes.

But, whenwe casually disavow responsibility for the impact of our words on the innocent, and the innocent take their own lives because of those careless, literally irresponsible words–well, if that doesn’t constitute hate, let’s look for something else.

On “Law and Order” I hear phrases like “wreckless disregard,” “criminal negligence,” “depraved indifference,” and the like. If “hate” is too strong, then how about criminal?

I’m reminded of Proverbs 24:11-12.
Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die;
save them as they stagger to their death.
Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.”
For God understands all hearts, and he sees you.
He who guards your soul knows you knew.
He will repay all people as their actions deserve.

I know. I just need you and others to see than not all death is physical. Thank you Pedro.
