Meh...it’s not like the Pope has any true spiritual authority. I agree that we should treat all with love and respect, gays included. However, that doesn’t change the words of the Scriptures. Roman Catholicism isn’t sola scriptura though so this may be acceptable for many.
The Pope has a great deal of influence world wide with 1.2 Billion Catholics. In fact, he has much more influence than any other religious leader in today's world and certainly more so than any Evangelical.
There are almost 70 million registered Catholics in the U.S. It's the largest Christian denomination not only in the world but in the United States.
Yeah, Republicans just want to force gay people back in the closet and demand that they stay single their entire lives (or do conversion therapy).
This is one reason Trump bothers me so much as a gay man. The entire reason he is so popular is because 40% of this country cannot accept my right to live.
And if a gay couple wanted to hold a reception at a Trump ( owned or managed) Hotel, the couple would be asked “ how big of a cake can we create for you? “

You really need to stop equating all or even most Republicans with Evangelicals. They are not the same. As a gay person, I doubt very much you enjoy being stereotyped. Don't do it to other people.
Hey, nothing wrong with that as long as all your partners are adults who consent with that arrangement.
And Mormons allow polygamy, so it's perfectly acceptable even in terms of Christianity.
The LDS Church banned polygamy in the late 1800’s and did so only for political reasons to enable Utah to become a state. Politics has been influencing religions and vice versa since forever.
The church broke into factions and some orthodox sects continued the practice of plural marriage.
