What is mind boggling is that 3 yrs ago the most rabid anti Russians and anti autocrat Putins were conservatives . To be pro Putin or pro Russian was treasonous . Then Trump came along and Trump likes Putin, likes Russia, so suddenly a bunch of conservatives are just fine with Russia and Putin and have become doves .
Did they make this change based on serious research into Russia and our foreign relations? No, they made this change instantly simply because Trump said Russia and Putin are our friends now . The Master has spoken, so the underlings change decades of belief and philosophy simply because the Master said it's all OK .

Trump keeps winning and America is losing. Which one is more important to you? I firmly believe -- though I hope I am wrong -- that this is the calm before the storm in so many ways. I believe we're in for a serious economic downtown if he keeps this tariff thing up. I think we're in for a constitutional crisis because he won't have the god sense Nixon had to resign. And I think he could get us into a war yet when he realizes he's been had by North Korea.

If he lashed out wildly it would make it worse. However, he could lash out with restraint. When Putin said Russia doesn't interfere with other countries' elections why not laugh and admit that everyone knows both the US and Russia have a long history of meddling. It states a simple truth that any clued in person knows?
When Putin speaks of rights, why not mention that the US has political rights for dissenters, robust opposition parties, and rights for gays, etc...
