Hah! Barking up the wrong tree, by a mile. Posters do not want to acknowledge this as an epidemic, because they are fat-asses, to. Typing away. https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html

I didn’t want an expansion of executive power, but you cons seem ok with it to further your pet projects. You’ll have to bear that position in mind when the shoe is on the other foot.

Why dont you declare a national emergency against murder? If there were no guns. Gangbangers would just kill people with knives or other weapons.

Negative, cowboy. You cannot null and void a Constitutional right by declaring an emergency.
The amount of illegal drugs coming from Mexico is soaring, and overdose deaths are far higher than from guns. Between 2016 and 2017 alone, the death rate from opioids like fentanyl rose 45%. In 1999 the drug od death rate was 6.1/100,000, by 2017 it was 21.7/100,000. Sounds like a national emergency to me.
How El Chapo smuggled drugs into the US:
Secret tunnels.
Hidden in tanker trucks.
Hidden in the chassis of cars.
Hidden in rail cars.
Hidden in jalapeno cans, carried by trucks.
So, how exactly is a wall the answer to this "national emergency"?
It's hard to disagree that too many people die of gun violence, suicides, accidental shootings, etc.
Compared to our peers, the US has rates of violence that should embarrass and shame anyone with a conscious.
The question to the OP is: What exactly would you propose doing to solve the national epidemic of gun violence?
Warning!- Certain hardcore gun lovers on this forum tend to get riled up, delusional & paranoid (edit: I see this is already happening) if someone says anything other than guns should be the value we hold above all other values.
But it would at least be good to hear what you're talking about before people assume the worst (though some will do that anyway).
If anyone is worried that Trump's fake National Emergency will be an opportunity for future presidents to institute whatever policies they like for their own personal political needs and for their minority base, they should be.
And they should be encouraging Trump not to act like a spoiled brat. This will hurt him, but those are the breaks when you have clueless inexperienced people who cannot even obtain security clearances advising Trump.
