So if Trump can go around Congress for the wall, get ready for the next D president to go full force on confronting the national epidemic of gun violence.

I didn’t want an expansion of executive power, but you cons seem ok with it to further your pet projects. You’ll have to bear that position in mind when the shoe is on the other foot.
Abortion can be hogtied to that one then.

On that thought, this is what typically happens, an illegal who gets arrested for shoplifting or other minor criminal offenses, gets deported, manages to come across the border again and commits more serious criminal acts, including those with guns obtained through illegal means.

Punish the offenders, not us decent law-abiding gun owners.

Sounds great, I'm all in !

Point being, you are only holding down the law abiding.....not the criminal....why is that so hard to understand?
Your homemade gun would be illegal.

Just using the same roundabout reasoning used to restrict a woman's right to choose.

For instance, Kermit Gosnell, a criminal sent to prison for breaking the law, is routinely used as a scapegoat by pro-lifers to further restrict abortion rights.

Why shouldn't what criminals do with guns be used to further restrict what the law abiding do with guns?

A criminal could possibly steal your gun and kill someone with it, therefore you shouldn't have one.

A teenager could possibly steal their parent's gun, take it to school and kill a dozen other kids, therefore, parents of minors should not be allowed to own guns.

Just asking for consistency.

I consider the suggestions I posted to be preventative measures, we do have the instant background check, which criminals avoid. In most cases, getting guns out of the hands of criminals can only be done when:
1) Criminals are killed by law-abiding gun owners protecting themselves
2) Criminals killing other criminals - Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.

It's a nice fantasy - goes back to the simple minded thinking that began in the John Wayne movie era where the good guys with guns always won over the evil guys.

Unfortunately real life is not as convenient or simple. The reality is that no matter how many people you punish, as long as we have a nation that is awash with weaponry, the USA will lead the world, as we do now - in gun homicides. We have 16 times as many gun homicides as Germany. It's not because we have more lawbreakers, folks. It's because we have a LOT more guns.

The reality as we have discovered after having these conversations for years with gun advocates - is that deep down, there is a part of America that loves violence and the drama that surrounds it. In other words they want to have unlimited opportunity to own and proliferate guns, but don't really care about or understand the implications - and don't want to learn. This is partly because of the erosion of critical thinking skills (nothing bad will ever happen to me or mine at the wrong end of a gun, right?).

Gun regulations are legal, it is legal to enforce them.......and it is LEGAL to add more.

And at which point do you think just one more piece of regulation will make the criminals listen ?
Maybe try some logical thinking sometime, you might be surprised.

You're forgetting about the 2nd Amendment's requirement: "shall not be infringed." Regulation is infringement.

There will be another SCOTUS case revisiting the 2nd Amendment. That's why it's so necessary to nominate and confirm Constitutionalist Justices.

infringe: act so as to limit or undermine

Here is your consistency....

As long as we do it across the board on everything....so, how would you like to have to blow in an air tube to get your car to start, even though you don't drink......but others have been killed by drunk drivers....yes?

Or, how about, if you have a pool, you will have a fence around it, no matter if you have kids or not, a child "could" wander into your back yard.
