How many people would that be approximately?
There are 23 people on board the Stena Impero, none are British Citizens, as for the other ship the Liberian registered Mesdar, it has been released and is now free to go on it's way. Merchant Vessels tend to have international crews.

So it's basically a Swedish owned ship, with no British crew, flying under a British flag.

“These seizures are unacceptable. It is essential that freedom of navigation is maintained and that all ships can move safely and freely in the region.”

The Stena Impero is British-flagged and the Mesdar is Liberian-flagged but British owned.

The Mesdar's operator said the vessel was now free to continue its journey after it was boarded by armed guards at around 17:30 BST on Friday.

You can't if they decide to fire first. Or even if they try and you fire....and then well, you're within range of all sorts of other attacks.

This story appears to have been wiped off CNN website.

Oh wait. I found it. It doesn't appear as a news article, but just a little "trending" title.

This should be front page news, not this silly pissing contest between Trump and AOC and others.

Thanks good post on the details. Iran is now poking Trump in the eye although this has not one thing to do with the US. Trump/Netanyahu policy has failed, they need to meet with Iran and settle this diplomatically before something dumb escalates the situation.

This is an indepth article. It appears Iran is doing what it can to get 2017 sanctions by the US against them lifted, which are crippling their oil industry. And the UK is caught in the middle, not wanting to anger their stronger ally the US, but they don't really have a dog in this hunt.

I read a really indepth article earlier this evening, and can't find it again. Tehran is economically crippled, and is trying to strike out at the US and allies to get relief.

I have never sided with Iran before in my life, but sometimes, you have to listen to the other side. So far, they haven't apparently harmed any of the crew of the ship. When one country is crippling the economy of another, maybe they're justified in shouting out?
