Interesting that the strongest proponents of common sense gun control are police forces and the leadership in our large cities. Law enforcement is getting tired of it.

https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/20...officers-shot/

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney:

“This government, both on federal and state level, don’t want to do anything about getting these guns off the streets and getting them out of the hands of criminals. This guy is clearly a criminal, he was a criminal — he had, apparently a long record which I’m not sure, I don’t have it in front of me — but has been involved in the criminal justice system before. And he was able to get these weapons and a large magazine, a large amount of bullets.

“So whether it’s our six officers who were shot or it’s some 15, 17, 20-year-old kid on the streets of Philadelphia who gets shot with guns that shouldn’t be in people’s hands, it’s aggravating, it’s saddening and it’s just something we need to do something about. And if the state and federal government don’t want to stand up to the NRA and some other folks, then let us police ourselves. But they preempt us on all kinds of gun control legislation.

Our officers deserve to be protected and they don’t deserve to be shot at by a guy for hours with an unlimited supply of weapons and an unlimited supply of bullets. So it’s disgusting and we have to do something about it”

Yet, nothing about the perpetrator being a multiple felon that previously and currently broke every gun law imaginable, and other laws against violent crime. Why was he on the street? Why punish only the law abiding gun owner for the violent crime committed by this CAREER MULTIPLE FELON???

Why did the justice system fail Mr. Mayor? Why do you let these criminals back out on the street so soon to commit more crime and shoot at cops, and others. Why are you putting innocent citizens and cops at more risk?

Why don't you want law abiding citizens to be able to EFFECTIVELY DEFEND THEMSELVES from the violent criminals YOU ENABLE?

I'm sure those felons who easily shoot police officers would be the first to follow the new legislation.

More gun control laws (in addition to the 20,000+ already on the books) won't stop a felon from illegally acquiring guns. They don't give a crap about gun laws, or any other laws for that matter. They simply don't obey them. How many times do the gun control nutters have to be told that? Are they really that dense? /smh

Democrat politicians only care about disarming the LAW ABIIDING. They accept that criminals like these will get and use guns ILLEGALLY. They ENABLE these career criminals by letting them out of jail so soon. Multiple times this guy was in and out of jail on weapons charges and committing violent crime.

Australia enacted strict gun control laws and the nutters now can't get those guns.

The idea that we can't have sensible gun control laws is NRA and Russian BS.

Some of the most effective new legislation may be directed right back to other lawmakers themselves, such as, "follow your own rules." Not all laws are directed only against the current law-abiding.

Wow, you are more delusional than even I thought. Does Australia have a lot of large cities with violent Black populations? This wasn't a "nutter" this was a CAREER CRIMINAL with a violent past that your DEMOCRAT leaders let back on the street putting people at risk.

Any gun legislation will require cooperation from the next perp in waiting and Philly gangs.

doubt the guy they just snagged would have acted differently if stricter gun laws were enacted.

More elected officials acting stupidly.

It is all about drugs and gangs!!!!! The murder rate would plummet if addressed effectively.

To go after guns, after a point of no return accumulation of laws, is to ignore the complexity of the problem and signal an incomprehensible depth of incompetence.

That guy had awesome gun control against tyrants. They were after him and he threatened no one, He harmed no one and he didn't steal from anyone at the time Police made their entrance to his castle.

Police waged war upon him and he held them off for hours.
The us v. them mentality of government.
Now you know exactly why the Government fears the rifle, more than the handgun.

How would more gun control kept this guy that was forbidden already from getting his hands on a firearm?
If you walk the streets freely, you have all your god given rights in the Bill of Rights. This guy proved just that.
Keep them incarcerated or kill them if you do not want someone from exercising their rights, including their 2nd amendment.
