Instead of arguing what about this, what about that, oh yeah this, oh yeah that, why can't the gun lobby just admit that they value the right to own guns over the lives of people who are killed by guns? It's a hard reality, but it's true, and it's true for everything.

We, as a nation, value the convenience of cars over the lives that could be saved if there were no cars. We, as a nation, value the enjoyment derived from drinking alcohol and the freedom to choose what we put in our bodies over the lives of drunks and their families, and the lives they destroy with their alcoholism and the people they run over while drunk driving.

I am pro choice. I do think fetuses are alive. But I value the principle of a right to privacy and the principle that the government shouldn't control procreation over the lives of unborn fetuses. It's a hard truth to come to terms with but that's what it is. I value the right of due process over justice. I'd rather have a hundred guilty men go free than one innocent man convicted - or frankly one citizen's home searched without a warrant. I think all drugs should be legal and taxed. I think prostitution should be decriminalized. If enacted, those decision would have a cost.

Principles have a cost.

The gun lobby needs to grow a pair and admit - they value their guns and their right to own guns over the lives of people killed by guns. All the stats and rationalizations and blah blah blah militia - that's what it comes down to. You can't have guns without the risk of people getting killed by guns, and that's a risk pro-gun people find acceptable. If it makes you uncomfortable to say, maybe your convictions aren't as strong as you think.
Name one person who was killed by a gun. Just one.

Interestingly, around here the state liquor control sells whiskey. Not Walmart.

I use the argument alcohol is legal -- why can't weed be legal.

Whatever.

Well I'm not ashamed. You dRATs need to clean up your urban areas with their criminal thugs, alcoholics and meth heads who the dRAT Socialist Party so love to embrace and support.

I've always wondered why conservatives, and particularly conservative Christians, worship guns so much. It's interesting. Is it a machismo thing? Just curious. I get having a hobby or collecting guns or whatever, but worshipping them? What gives? Do these people have sex with their guns too?

Alcohol kills more from its chronic, long term use.

Is that why it is called cocking the gun?
