The trend continues. The top 7 states affluent Americans are leaving most, are all Liberal. The reasons given are apolitical, but how to explain why ALL 7 are Liberal high-tax states
NJ, NY, MA, CT, MI, CA, IL, are the top 7 in lost residents.
Just a hunch, but I think the Republicans, & Independents who identify more with Pubs, are the first to leave the Liberal states. I say this because Florida's new voter registrations lean Republican, not Democrat. For the first time in a long time, Republicans now outnumber Democrats in Florida. Florida is a huge inbound state, so carries greater weight than say tiny Vermont.
I say "affluent" Americans because generally speaking, that is who uses Van Lines to move. Less affluent movers typically use their own vehicles, pull behind trailers, and rental trucks.
Who is moving is key, because affuent people pay more in taxes, & possess greater wealth. These 7 Lib states are losing enormous amounts of future taxes, & commerce...Billions worth. That leaves less affluent taxpayers behind to shoulder the tax burden. They will also lose Congressional seats.
For those remaining behind, they are certain to see more tax increases to offset these enormous losses.
People move for reasons other than politics, the link says it is apolitical yet you go off on some other tangent that is the opposite of what your link states.
So then the next question is, when Arizona goes blue just like Washington state, where will you move to next?
I don't mind too much if they turn blue, just not Nazi authoritarian blue, if they do, I'll probably move to Idaho. And yes, I do have an escape Plan B to leave the USA when it goes full Venezuela.
But they are avoiding the plains states from Oklahoma north, like the plague, fortunately. Few liberals want to work in the oil fields or work a low paying retail or food service job or tolerate the far right Christian cultural and political atmosphere.
Tulsa continues to offer a $10,000 incentive to any remote worker willing to relocate for at least a year.

I see.
So, if the US goes "full Venezuela" before you get a chance to move to Idaho, does that mean you leave the US altogether, or do you first try Idaho anyway?
And what if Idaho goes blue before you move there (not that I'm expecting it will, just a what-if)?

Full Venezuela?
The Federal Government is going to seize all means of production?

But turning blue will turn the state into what made majority of them move in to begin with. They change the culture, the way of life and turn it into yuppie land, then demand for more big houses, will push farms and ranches out, people be priced out of their homes to upscale the neighborhoods, people walking around carrying Starbucks coffee. Then the mom n pop grocery stores will be pushed out and in comes trader joes and Whole Foods.
You'd be a fool to think those leaving blue states and moving to red states are going to vote anything but D. They will continue voting for the type of policies that they ran away from because...dumb?
I think this is a myth.
I moved from a blue state to a red state years ago. I vote Republican and everyone that I've met who did the same thing votes Republican too.
People don't leave Blue states because they love them.
Some leave for job transfers etc and those are probably the ones you have to worry about.
Are you affluent though?
I don’t see affluent residents moving, they are fixing up their houses and looking around to where else they should invest in second houses. Not actually changing domicile because it is a great life if it is affordable.
The less affluent are moving because they find it too difficult to keep up with the high costs.
affluent in my new state, dirt poor in NJ. but at least the almighty governor is helping then downtrodden, so we can all feel good about that.
That is not applicable to some rural resort/retiree/recreation areas that have a high percentage of second homes, and now more permanent residents due to WFH. They generally have very high housing costs, but often low taxes.
There are exceptions to every rule. That said no matter where taxes add to the overall cost of living. X place with no taxes will cost less than X place with 10% taxes, X place +15, 20, 25 etc.
