I think on the abortion issue , she could go either way. that will be the best a conservative could do . She is qualified and should be approved.

Actually I am intimating that there are partisan hacks -bothon the right and on the left - who will tie themselves in knots trying to justify their preconceived notions on her nomination.

The left and the religious right are both passionate about abortion -- the left would normally be angered at a prolife scotus nominee...now we will see them try to make it 'fit' with thier ideology. The right has always made being prolife an integral part of a scotus choice - now we will see them struggle to find ways to oppose her nomination in spite of it.

That is what I mean - and we can already see it happening on this very thread before any of us really knows what Sotomayors stance really is

Oh, please. She hasn't claimed that personal bias is how she rules. She's acknowledged that we are all humans, judges included, and that we all have biases that are products of our personal experiences. And she has a very good record of not being overruled.

When asked about her abortion position she will use the same old response that's become pro forma, which is to say she will decide law cases based on the merits of the case as it is presented.

She isn't a crusading prolifer and that is what matters. There is nothing I expect to "magically" happen, I expect she will do her job. She is smart, educated, and experienced and that's really all you can judge her on at this point.

If she is a good jurist it will not matter if she is pro-choice or pro-life. What will matter is her interpretations on rights to privacy cases dating back to Griswold v. Connecticut. The question is how far does she thing the right to privacy extends and when we find that out, either through testimony or court rulings, we will have a better idea as to how she sees abortion rights.

Abortion is murder and should never have been legalized.

That said, even if Sotomayor somehow turns out to be opposed to abortion it will still not change my view of her.

She is a radical left-wing racist hispanic that is a member of the radical left-wing racist organization La Raza. This movement is anti-law enforcement, and they seek to grant complete amnesty for illegal immigrants.

For the sake of this country her nomination needs to be rejected.

She is a member of the NCLR. Your characerization of the NCLR is incorrect. You should research it more.

"Yikes" is an appropriate name because that is exactly what I said when I read your post.

If tweaked just a little, your comments sound like some that came out of most Sarah Palin rallies and were directed at Obama. You guys really need to get new talking points. What, have Rush and Hannity been on vacation the last eight months?

Of course.

If a jurist is likely to make some conservative decisions and some liberal ones, both the conservatives and the liberals will be happy with his or her appointment, but they will also be unhappy with it for other reasons.
