July. Afternoon highs reached 108 every day for almost two weeks. That was at my DT bus stop, in the afternoon, when the heat island effect was at its worst
I remember it because the temperature jumped 5 to 10 degrees in just the few miles from my apartment, to Centennial campus where I work. You'd only notice if you have a thermometer, or were outside like me wondering why you feel like you're about to die just from standing there.

It may have seemed that hot, but the official temperature in Raleigh never exceeded
94 degrees last July.
Personally, I get annoyed when people say Falls of THE Neuse.
But that's the RIGHT way. It's is Falls of THE Neuse and has been for years. They just screwed up the road signs.
RTP ≠ Triangle. THE RTP ≠ THE Triangle. The article is not the issue. The Triangle is the general region. RTP is the office park. It's also not RDU, that's the airport. And it's never Raleigh-Durham.
And no good bagels and no good pizza and we don't have the right grocery stores or WaWa oh, and not enough street lights, and although all the Long Islanders moved to get away from taxes our property taxes on our cars are too high. Hmmmm...what else...
Oh, I remember, we need bigger piles of potatoes. Not enough potatoes here. And diners.
what i dont understand is - if there are so many new yorkers who moved to NC, how come nobody from here has opened a good bagel shoppe or pizza shop or bistro restaurant or farmer's market where you can get great bread and cheese over there? I wasn't sure if the "not so good food" thing was a rumor.....
We have excellent food. It's just not NY food, which for some reason, some NYers (and NJers) expect. It's NC food. We're just messin' with ya.
It's a funny thread title. Raleigh has tons of NY transplants. Dive into the archives here. Do a search on something like "moving from NY" and see how many threads come up.
It didn't seem that way. I actuality measured it. The official Temps are either an average, or a specific area that's measured. There is always variation in different eco-tones and regions within an area. In this case, the micro-habitat is DT Raleigh, where you'd expect it to be hottest thanks to all the asphalt, CO, etc

I don't really go by the "not so good food" thing because it's 100% subjective. The reality is that the reason that there aren't NY bagel shops everywhere is because the demand isn't there. Having said that, there are good [insert favorite food here] shops in the triangle, but you probably have to drive to get to them.
The Yankee argument (again I say this as a Yankee) that there is no good food here is akin to a North Carolinian moving up to NY and wondering why they don't know how to properly cook BBQ or make tea for that matter.

Given how many Raleigh natives use that term I feel that one gets a pass.
