I went there a few times, but it was little rough for me. As I recall, a Raleigh Fireman was one of the original owners of the place.

Has Uncle Paul and all (of) his friends been mentioned? On the day I went to the show (probably 1976) it was too crowded to do the march. I was so disappointed....

I went when I was in Kindergarten (several years before you did). There were two groups of marchers. I didn't make it on tv.

I marched with him when I was in kindergarten. Mid-seventies.

He actually held my hand. I also got to be part of the story time circle.

It was a banner day for my newly 6 self.

I can't believe how much this thread took off. It's easily the most replied to thread on the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill subforum. I love hearing about the area even from before I was around.

Nothing got a day off better than a march with Uncle Paul

Uncle Paul used to frequent the Gateway restaurant and order a burger made his way. Gateway has it on their menu. Obviously it's called the "Uncle Paul" which is described as a bacon cheeseburger with a glob of mayo. Yummm.

I was there twice. Once for Halloween in my skeleton costume. Yeh, we marched.

Uncle Paul reminds me of another WRAL staple. Anybody remember wrestling at the WRAL studios? I'm thinking it was done on Saturday morning.

Also, I recall going multiple times to Dorton Arena for wrestling. Ring time, 7:30, Tuesday night.

Blackjack Mulligan, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Wahoo McDaniel, Rufus R "Freight Train" Jones, Paul Jones.

Anyone want to jump in?
