Has Uncle Paul and all (of) his friends been mentioned? On the day I went to the show (probably 1976) it was too crowded to do the march. I was so disappointed....

I went when I was in Kindergarten (several years before you did). There were two groups of marchers. I didn't make it on tv.

I marched with him when I was in kindergarten. Mid-seventies.
He actually held my hand. I also got to be part of the story time circle.
I can't believe how much this thread took off. It's easily the most replied to thread on the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill subforum. I love hearing about the area even from before I was around.

Uncle Paul used to frequent the Gateway restaurant and order a burger made his way. Gateway has it on their menu. Obviously it's called the "Uncle Paul" which is described as a bacon cheeseburger with a glob of mayo. Yummm.
Uncle Paul reminds me of another WRAL staple. Anybody remember wrestling at the WRAL studios? I'm thinking it was done on Saturday morning.
Also, I recall going multiple times to Dorton Arena for wrestling. Ring time, 7:30, Tuesday night.
