I'm a musician (retired ) and I listen to just about everything, including dubstep, techno, house, country and all the other genres people seem to hate.
My writing partner listened to a bit of dubstep and found a really great backround beat that we incorporated into a bluegrass song we were composing, so you never know where you're going to find inspiration.
To be honest, I'm far more irritated by people who say 'I listen to everything BUT' and then list off a bunch of genres.

I got through an entire 10 seconds of that noise, blech......usually I would say that is just silly but amazingly enough this time I absolutely agree. Maybe she would agree to not listen to that type of music when you are together? I don't know but if you like her enough to get to know her more maybe it is worth a try asking her.
The fact that it was a little weird getting out of the car and that neither of you could laugh it off and move on to something else (make another observation - anything) makes it seem as though you're simply not very compatible personality wise.
But I think it was the music thing. Everything seemed to be going good up to the moment she started the car and she re-started her iPod. After I made the little crack about it, you could tell it shifted the tone a little bit.
I don't know, I've been thinking about it - this is the first time that it's happened. Everything else was cool with her, she like hiking, the mountains, traveling.
Wow, and some of us manage to marry and be happy with partners who belong to a different political party
Dude, do you have so many women in your life that you can really afford to toss one away that you otherwise like over something this petty?
must be nice to be able to drop someone because god forbid your music tastes don't match.
Dating someone with really similar taste is really awesome though.
To answer the OP's question, not calling her because she listens to techno crap is pretty petty. But, you are probably one of those that dates a lot....

I disagree that he is being petty.
It would be one thing if that music was her main thing but she liked other genres too, but OP says she listens to nothing else. That to me indicates a lack of an open mind which will cause other problems.
90% of my music listening is either MGk, old school hip hop, or contemporary Christian but I can appreciate GOOD music from any genre, yes folks even country.

I've always had a girlfriend, yes
This city is just so weird though so many hipsters, so many alternative lifestyles. Music is huge for me, I couldn't live without it. I couldn't date someone with a taste for that techno junk.
When I met my fiancee she was into A-ha, Dire straits and all sorts of stuff I don't really like.
Within a few months she'd gotten to like a lot of stuff I do, and now her music library is full of things like Slayer, Volbeat etc as well as the stuff she liked before.
I've also found some of her stuff which isn't too bad.
I accept it's not great being with someone who doesn't share your taste, and if a date was already on the brink of being given the heave-ho, then that would probably push me over the edge too.
it could be worse, she could love show tunes and start singing anything from Annie at the drop of a hat
What's wrong with that?
Kidding...I don't listen to show tunes (often)...lol
Taste in music would only be an issue for me if that's ALL they listen to and they can't be in the car without blasting it. When I'm in the car with someone I rarely put the music up because I'd rather be talking to that person (unless it's my husband...music is on when he's in the car and we have volume control tiffs...lol).
