The way I look at it is if the forum helps one person, it serves a useful purpose. What you as someone posting a problem, need to know is that there will always be some posters who will be unhelpful as they can. Some will do it out of malice, while others are jaded by bad experiences. You need to have a thick enough skin to ignore the bad advice/bashing and find the useful gems. If you lurk/participate long enough, you can determine the useful posters and those who just want to stir the pot.

Thing is its not the trolls or advice given as much as it as a thread talking about how attractive a trait is you dont have or unattractive a trait you do is etc

I agree but people seem to want to seperate these forums from real life when these are the same women im gonna see on the street..its disheartening to see how many of these people feel a certain way and are completely ignorant and jerkish
I think its just people can be more honest about their stupid igorant thoughts and beliefs on here then in real life
I think they are harmful for those who tend to absorb things they read here (or relationship forums like this) with nothing else to counteract it in the same way it would be in real life if you were exposed to an array of cross-sections of people.
On the other hand, I think they can be helpful for people who like to get varying opinions, yet would not consider what is said here to be The stopping point of knowledge and discussion.
