The first part of my career I used to wear a tie everyday to work. I have since moved positions and am more of a jeans and polo shirt.
I think that a suit can look sharp as hell... no doubt.
I'm just a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy.
I think this thread has sort of slipped into a "perception" versus reality type of deal.
The reality is is that you can look how ever you want, will people judge you, of course, it's human nature... we're designed to take in a lot of data at one swoop, hence prejudices and stereotypes.....
That's why I don't get all butthurt if someone thinks I look like some kind of slacker....
I know better.
Me too, I work a white collar job, but I have a blue collar personality. I'm more of the rugged, bearded, t-shirt and jeans, with a ball cap type. I'm from a rough area and worked low wage jobs before age 28.
I like dressing up, but not after work or on a day off. Button down, slacks, dress shoes for work. After I get off and shower, I don't feel like getting dressed up again. lol
Meh that can be a lot of money if you're single. I don't make much, only around 50k/year, but don't have any real expenses either, just drive around in rental cars and live in hotels on my companies tab, so have practically no bills, can spend my money on whatever I want. I'd say I live a better lifestyle than my sister and her husband who make 150k between the two of them. Families are expensive.

Wait, your public profile photo shows you with a beautiful Girlfriend. Yet, you claim to be single ?
How much money do you make per year? How does your investment portfolio look? Do you own or lease a home? These are more important than what kind of car you drive IMO.
It's one thing if your debt:income is really good and you can easily afford the luxuries. I come from a blue collar region that is high on the pretentiousness list. That said, I know a lot of people there that spend a ton of money for appearance and they're only making $30k-$40k/yr. Sure, they look awesome. But they're also in terrible shape financially and it eventually comes to light once the well dries up.
I rent a 2 bedroom. I don't need a house, I only have my son on the weekends. I wouldn't be able to afford my car on $30 to $40k a year.
