I wouldn't necessarily consider a compliment being hit on. I mean, a few months ago a guy told me I had nice hair in the grocery store. I said thank you and went about my shopping. Had he followed up with any conversation, I might have considered it being hit on, but not the compliment in and of itself.
I don't give off a really approachable vibe. I was a very loyal wife, so my walls were built so high, it's still habit not to be unguarded out and about.
Plus, I am older now, and we're pretty much invisible.
This pretty much sums it up for me as well so I'm sticking with your view Ann Onn. And on top of it, I'm good with how it is as well, it's very comfortable and non threatening.
Seems guys don't mind being "that creep that hits on women", I guess.
But all guys hit on women - how else do romances develop? Although I suppose it depends on how one defines 'hitting on women'. How would you define 'hitting'?
Men tend to hit on women most at bars/pubs etc or via online dating. This is where women are approached most. Women who don't frequent bars or use OLD will be approached less.
As most women on OLD are now getting hundreds of approaches online by guys, guys are more likely to approach less in person.
I have been in a bar about 3-4 times this week and I can honestly say I have not been hit on in a bar in many years. My 20’s yes but not in well over a decade. I can go sit at a bar, eat and leave without talking to anyone other than the bartender.

My girl hit on me first.
Men asking women out is usually the norm, but not all romances usually start out that way.

No, all guys don't. Some are so shy, or so convinced no woman would be interested, that they don't hit on anyone. Romances develop in those cases, because the women hit the guys over the head, or some wingman/best friend manages to corral someone for the guy.

I went out with a girl yesterday and asked her this question. Her answer was "it depends on how often I go out." I got the impression that it's not a common occurrence, at least in the workplace for her. She's in her mid 20s btw, and reasonably attractive.
