The last two romance novels I read was the Borgia Bride and Silver Metal Lover . Given that Borgia involved a lot of incest and killing, not too romantic, but one of the closest things I've read as far as romance goes. Silver was sci-fi romance lol, quite weird though enjoyable.

I know what you mean. I don't really get her books either. I would rather a short , but sweet story. Less than 300 pages. And sometimes I skim through it to get to the juicy parts, lol.

I don't know, think all that stuff is trash and a waste of time.

Dont know if they are having sex or are on a road trip with Huell Houser talking about geography.

I'd say, generally speaking...Yeah. That seems right to me.

I mean, have you read some of those Romance novels? Sheesh, not only are the sex scenes often very graphic; but the morals of the characters are often quite.........shall we say......slutty.

Of course you can't apply that to every individual. But generally speaking, I I think so.

It's fairly mindless fantasy titillation, a.k.a. fluff, so yes, it's the same as I think most have already agreed.

All I can do is sigh loudly at this load of almight crap.

Seriously?

Both genres present images of partners that are idealized in some way. And both are mostly harmless. Some people can distinguish between fantasy and reality, and some can't. It's as simple as that.
It amazes me that they sell at all but you're right about them selling. That's why they're located near the check out at the supermarket. That and the National Inquirer. Obviously, that sells too. I don't buy or read either. Never have. Neither do my sisters. I find it telling that trash sells in our society. You'd think we'd try to improve ourselves rather than become more base.

I have a family member whose wife reads romance novels. (A.K.A. Smut books) It's becomming a serious problem in their marriage. He is ready to toss her out. All she wants to do is live in her fantasy world and no matter what he does, and he does a lot for her, it never measures up to the heros in her books. She can't see the man who takes such good care of her because she's constructed this unreasonable idea of what a man should be.

Sadly, she and three kids are going to pay when she ends up divorced because of this. By the time she realizes she had a great husband and provider in him, someone else who appreciates him will have found him. I don't know why she keeps reading this stuff. All it does is make her more and more unhappy with what she has. Porn does the same thing. Neither are good.

While I do think women do a better job of not treating men like objects than men do with women, there are women who let these books cloud their perception of real life. If you live in a fantasy world long enough, the real world loses it's appeal. That's the danger in porn and romance novels. Why some insist on playing with fire is beyond me. I've read a few excerpts from romance novels and seen a couple of porn flicks but they hold nothing for me. Porn is revolting. Romance novels simply not interesting enough to hold my interest long enough to get half way through them.
