Snapped a photo of this phone booth while visiting NH last month. At the time, I thought it was noteworthy because I hadn't seen one in 10 or more years. I checked - it was operable.

I'm amazed - not just that it exists but that it still works.
In the late fifties, early sixties, there was this round, plastic thing with a straw attached to it . . .you would put ice cream in the round thing and sip soda (root beer) through the straw. I LOVED this item - it was so much fun.
Also Nehi soda and rainbow double popsickles (they actually melted). Popsickles these days do not melt.
I believe you're describing what was called ASTRO-FLOATs and you can still buy an original one from eBay(as of today 05/08/14) but under the name "Astro Fizz Nik". It was a two piece plastic item(somewhat looked like a big fishing-pole bobber) that you filled with ice cream and inserted one end into a GLASS soda bottle. When you tipped the bottle to drink, the soda mixed with the ice cream and poured out the other side......delicious! : )
Now, does anyone remember this.....early in the 1960's, I received a CANDYLAND game for my birthday. Included in the box were several large wrapped sucker-pops. Can't find anyone else who remembers their game coming with the candy......
I remember something very similar. It was a round hollow ball with a tube on each end....that would fit perfectly into the top of a pop bottle. The ball would snap apart in the middle, put in the ice cream, snap back together, put one end into the bottle of pop.....drink out of the other end.
Instant float!

Yep! That is it, exactly. I don't know what to call it to try to find it - I thought maybe "satellite" or something like that, but I don't know.
Quote from the eBay listing....." THIS IS A 1961 PROMO ITEM FOR 7 UP. AT THAT TIME COKE COLA AND PESPI WERE THE LEADERS IN THE SODA POP INDUSTRY. 7 UP CAME UP WITH THIS PROMO IDEA USING THE FIZZ NIK INFLUENCED BY THE RUSSIAN SPACE SHIP SPUTNIK."
I believe 7UP used the name "Fizz Nik" and Coke used "ASTRO-FLOAT".
that black tar salve that you put on everything (have to get it at the veterinarian's office - not for use on humans - yeah, right)
