Back in the 60's Pearl Beer advertised their water came "from the country of 1100 springs." Someone told me the springs are near San Antonio but just little bitty squirts coming out of the ground. Does anyone know where these 1100 springs are?

They come from the recharge zone all across north Bexar County, Bandera County. Who knows? there might be 11,000 of them.

I was at Edge Falls in the early 70's before they closed it. I started to flow down the river past the big blue pond and when I looked back I swear that I saw the Pearl Beer can in real life. I think that the country of 1100 springs is just an idea that may or may not be true. Who can really say how many there are?

Do you know if the Pearl Brewery tapped into a spring or did they just use SAWS tap water?

Don't know about later, but initially they had live springs at the brewery they used for brewing...

I was living in an apartment on Fulton. There was a little shop on Hildebrand called "Ye olde Wine Shop". They sold Beer and Wine making supplies. I bought a beer making kit and made beer using tap water out of the faucet. My beer became legendery even though it was just kit beer and tap water. When I moved out I had a well on some property. The beer was aweful. I think it was because of the Iron in the pipes of the well. Who knows. I still want to make beer again. I will probably use bottled water. I am part of a CO-OP now. Maybe the water will make good beer--I will just have to try.

I'm thinking 1100 springs was referring to all the springs in the area from Concan, Leakey to San Antonio. I think the picture Pearl used for their ads was from the Concan area. As much water as a brewery uses, I don't think Pearl used tap water from SAWS, but more than likely had their own well tapped into the Edwards. With only the expense of the building the well and the electricity to run the pumps(during the time they were brewing) they would have an unlimited supply of water at no cost. Now, there are various pumping limits on the hundreds of Edwards Aquifer wells.

Wish I had kept my dad's old bottles of non returnable Pearl beer, from the Country of 1100 Springs... wherever they are.

I did keep this bottle and as a kid filled it up with pennies.

Back in the late 60's dad bought his 6 packs of Pearl beer at Lawrence Epp's Red & White Grocery Store on the 900 block of Nolan street.

If you go to the newly opened part of the riverwalk just north of the Pearl brewhouse, you can see a shutoff supposedly where the original well was that delivered the water for Pearl Brewery.
