Not caring about the money, in a high COL place like San Diego, is a short-cut to becoming homeless. If you really don't want to have to care about money, find a low COL place.

BINGO. Exactly. There is NOTHING wrong at all in finding a city with better weather, etc. But there are a LOT of people that live in San Diego that probably shouldn't. As oddstray correctly mentioned...lots of people go homeless here. They don't care about money either...although they probably should.

Yep. You're right...the "shelter" part is the problem for the most part in San Diego. Buying or renting. It's pretty pricey here.

TONS of great and affordable food options here in San Diego. Nothing more than any other city. Groceries are a bit more than some cities but really the significant difference in San Diego is cost of housing and as mentioned on here many times..the fairly nothing special salaries.

Except COL encompasses more than just food and shelter. You need to factor in utilities, fuel consumption, health Ins, car payments, car registration, car Ins......all of which may/ or may not be higher than what you are accustomed to.
