Thanks queenvic for posting that follow up comment. But to be clear, I wasn't hinting because my black friends didn't experience the kind of racism you did, that it meant it doesn't exist. I was simply wanting to get your opinion on it. I've found that when there are things happening that are clearly wrong, it's good to talk about the issues and communication can be great instead of avoiding them. But absolutely I understand your desire not to talk about it if it bothers you. That's your right.

Absolutely no one has the justification to call you a gorilla or some of the other horrible things you mentioned. I wish you the best.

If you are a hyper-extroverted alpha type, if you have terrible taste in everything, and if you only perceive personal growth in shallow terms, you will find zero wrong with San Diego. San Diego is a fantastic place to spend a few weeks, but the experience begins to unravel for almost everyone after that. The people who don't experience that unravelling are those afforementioned types. Spend a year there and you WILL see this.

A great example is the fact that it is a popular spot for 22 year-olds who either just graduated or just dropped out of college. The ones who grow up and follow a career - especially creative careers - will leave after they've enjoyed their time there. The ones who never grow up will stay... forever. They become 40 year-old Bros.

The bottom line is, if you don't fit in the archetype listed above, you have to find a network of like-minded transplants who are themselves sticking around in SD or else the place will begin to feel strangely dead.

I agree that it's hugely exaggerated, though it does contain a grain of truth. It's well-written, though. I give the poster kudos for that.

Thanks for sharing. Even if it is not what I experience in my day to day life, its something I noticed amongst a small minority that dont get out of the vortex.

In other parts of the country they are called townies. Pretty sure you wont avoid them anywhere you go but they do come with slightly different 'branding'

Please don't lump San Diego into one category. If you are going to speak in these general terms, point out what group, neighborhood, or town you are referring to. We are 3-4 million strong, you cannot lump that many people in to one bucket.
