I've given up on the yellowtail until spring. Got two nice goats in the kelp line fishing the lobster pot buoys. Still a bunch of bonito around, fun fight on a kayak with lighter gear. Other than that it's slowing down.

It's about that time. I'm busy hunting locally but come December will chase some bonies and rockfish. Crazy hot weather again. Get the goats on shrimp? Hard to keep the Senoritas off to get the bigger goats they are so fast.

Yeah, I'm surprised that it's still in the mid-60s right now. Maybe there will be an El Nino after all

It’s stingray time again, I saw two this morning surfing in IB. Since I don’t live at the beach anymore I asked my wife for a kettle I can plug into my car lighter for Christmas. I’m not going through last fall’s incident again when I couldn’t just walk home to get my ripped foot into hot water.

I would be curious to know what percentage of San Diegans avoid the water due to Stingrays ? I consider myself lucky for not being bit yet in my 3 years out here but I think I will cash in my chips this year. It seems like eventually all water dwellers will get bit.

Shuffling feet is boring and deters me from having fun on my body board......" Ooops I fell off, will my hand hit a stingray....not fun".

Anyone know a good pool in the Encinitas Area ? Is there such a thing as a paid membership to a swim club ?

Any resorts you can sneak into or pay day rates like the Omni Spa ?

Stingrays don't bite

Anyway, I've lived here for 40+ years and I swim/snorkel/bodysurf most days starting as soon as the water warms up in summer until it cools down in fall, and have since I was a toddler. Never once occurred to me to avoid the water because of stingrays (just like it's never occurred to me to avoid the trails because of rattlesnakes). Nobody I know who loves the ocean has ever been deterred. YMMV, obviously
