Record broken again today at Scripps. Bat rays in the area.

I was out fishing on the kayak today at La Jolla. Water temps almost 80 but didn't crack it yet on my fish finder.

I hooked into a Mako shark today. Fought him for about 10 minutes trying to figure out what I would do when I got him up. Fortunately he sawed my line off and I did't have to worry. Lots of barracuda in the water. Some calico action and no yellowtail to be had.

Beach was pretty crowded when I landed at LJS. Heard a story about a GW eating a seal off the cove. Only people that fish can appreciate a seal getting smoked by a GW, I'm sure the rest of the touchy feely crowd was horrified. I would like to see a little more shark vs seal crime.

I heard that there are hammerheads off of the coast now as well, something that normally doesn't happen unless it is an El Nino year.

I HATE hammers. They act more like tigers than GW. They like to taste stuff first to test it.

I hope it was a sea lion and not a harbor seal that got took.

I'm a fisherman. Sea lions SUCK and should not be protected like they are. Harbor seals don't steal your fish and will follow you like a puppy dog hoping for a snack

In summary, one can kill you and the other is just a lil chubster annoying us at a certain time of year at the children's pool.

How far offshore were you when you saw the Mako? A guy got video of the shark feasting on the seal and it looks to be pretty close to shore.

And I guess incidents stringray stings are on the track to be the highest ever this summer. Boo! The water has been so clear that I keep seeing kelp leaves and mistaking them for stingrays.
