California to Branson is a no brainer. IMO Branson has the better people and lifestyle plus around 75% Republican voters. The Democrats are mostly recent imports 1995-2010. I have voted for both parties and served in 2 tours of Vietnam. Very open minded, Policies not parties for me.
I loved my 15 years in Branson and will be back in October.
And I, for one, will welcome you back. You have two factors in your favor. You're a fellow vet and you vote policies and issues rather than parties. That makes you a good neighbor in my book!

We retired to Table Rock Lake last year. Love it!

Dear MiamisFynest, I have lived in Springfield for 8 years having moved here from Austin, Tx. My reloaction was purely financial as I desperately needed to find a place where living in my SSDisability income of $933mo would be possible. Amazingly, it HAS proven a great success from the standpoint of making it on a very limited income but I miss the perks of big city cultural diversity and the availability of the "fine arts" such as concerts, theater, etc. The other shock, perhp the greatest, is the overwhelming Evangelical Christian element that pervades much of the area. Branson is basically a sprawling tourist zone with VERY limited and very seasonal employment possibilities. I would caution against permanent relocation until you have first REALLY spent some time there. You need to carefully assess your needs and wants. Make an actual list on paper and then decide. If you are retired with stable income that will eliminate many concerns.
