in a move to reduce high up front costs, the city might lease the space Exxon is vacating in the ExxonMobil building in downtown..

Quote:
A deal is far from done, officials cautioned, but the city may lease the 45-story building at 800 Bell from Shorenstein Properties, which has launched a joint venture with Griffin Partners for the "possible redevelopment" of the tower, a Griffin press release said, to house courtrooms and other city needs.

The announcement comes two weeks after Parker pushed the council to vote on the future of the city's police-and-courts buildings, offering a choice between constructing a new "justice complex" or repairing the city's crumbling facilities. With both options ranging from hundreds of millions of dollars to more than $1 billion, and with both requiring voter approval and perhaps even a tax increase to fund, the council balked, punting the item back to Parker.

In addition, green construction fences went up today on the site of SkyHouse Main. Looks like low oil prices aren't detering Novare either.

New renderings of the MFAH expansion (specifically the new Kinder building).

Quote:
In January 2015, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, revealed plans for the redevelopment of its 14-acre campus, including a unifying master plan; a 164,000-square-foot-building for 20th- and 21st-century art; a new, 80,000-square-foot home for the Glassell School of Art, and a new center for conservation. The project – supported by a $450-milion capital and endowment campaign and slated for completion in 2019 – will transform not only the museum, but also the surrounding neighborhood, by relocating neighborhood parking underground, and enhancing the pedestrian experience of this cultural hub.

...

“This is the most exciting single project in the history of the Museum, not only marking the completion of the campus but also the Museum for years to come,” said Rich Kinder, Chairman of the Museum’s board of trustees and of its long-range planning committee and Chairman of the Kinder Foundation.
This building makes me think of a Holl inspired Menil Drawing Institute/Asia Society Texas Center hybrid.. A fantastic addition to the collection.

And Uptowns BRT line is finally moving forward... While METRO cleverly snuck around some legislation and made it possible for a future upgrade to LRT.

Letter lays out path for Uptown Management District, Metro and the Texas Department of Transportation are all involved in the plan to add center lanes solely for buses to Post Oak, then use dedicated lanes along Loop 610.
The express buses would connect a future Bellaire Transit Center with the Northwest Transit Center near Interstate 10 and Loop 610, stopping at dedicated platforms along Post Oak.
"If this is successful, and I believe this will be successful, it is going to change things and things people think about transit," said Metro board chairman Gilbert Garcia.
