The entire country only saw 933 murders for 2015 which is crazy low for a population of 127 million. However, the crime rate among those aged 65 and older has nearly doubled since 2002. I don't know why I find that funny. Maybe it's the thought of little old Japanese ladies shoplifting.

Virginia Beach just arrested two 17-year olds for seven shootings (two murders) just since December 2nd. This is a story in The Beach because the city isn't one of these cities with a high crime rate or a large juvenile delinquent problem. Virginia Beach is fairly large and maybe has 3-4 rough areas, none of which are the "worst hoods" in the region and not remotely comparable to the most violent-stricken neighborhoods of America. This, to me, raises an interesting question about the influence of social media and celebrities on youth, in the second consecutive year that America's violent crime rate has risen. Virginia Beach isn't Chicago, where there are gangs everywhere and adolescents involved in criminal activity from an elementary age...

Virginia Beach had 19 murders last year. They won't get there this year, as they are currently at 16/3.53, but they have to be concerned with the level of youth crime in the city this year...

Richmond had its 64th murder yesterday afternoon at Mosby Court with a murder rate of 29.09 per 100k...

Wow, the city of Chicago has almost the number of murders as the entire country of Japan.

Another scourge ravaging the cities are drug overdoses.

Just saw that 35 people in the city of Philadelphia died of heroin overdoses in a 5 day span a week or so ago. Just Unreal.

I read that someone in the USA dies of a drug overdoze every 5 minutes.

man a few of these cities are clocking in mid 90's numbers.

I do believe chicago's high number might have to do with police backlash following the laquan mcdonald incident

With all of these drug overdose numbers and increasing murder rates, it does feel like we're returning to the late 80s/early 90s in terms of violent crime and drugs.

Strange to me how murder rates were generally at their lowest when the economy was at it's worst.

It's because kids are glorifying murder again in lyrics.. the whole drill scene in Chicago is getting these youngsters fired up and thinking that murder is cool..
