Arya's training in Braavos is more detailed in the books, although the torment she's getting is pretty on-line.
Doran in Dorne was playing a couple games: One character missing in the show is his daughter who kidnaps Myrcella to make her Queen after Joffrey dies. One of her companions tries to kill Myrcella but only succeeds in slicing off her ear. The daughter of Doran was slated to marry Viserys, Daenerys' brother. Since he died the plan was to marry her off to another character who's missing from the show, Rhaegar's son, who was supposedly killed by the Mountain, who had been spirited out by Varys and raised in Essos.
The second game being played (also missing from the show) is Doran, hearing of Viserys' demise, sends his oldest son to find Daenerys and marry her, there by becoming King. So, he had two tracks going which would have put one of his kids as either King or Queen.
He also pretty much restrained Oberyn's wife and daughters by locking them up for awhile. One of Oberyn's daughters is disguised as a boy and training to be a maester in Oldtown.
So, the show has deviated quite a bit. It has cut out some stuff that honestly I think Martin wrote as filler.
Its good to see Theon Greyjoy finally regain his sense of self. The torture scenes by the hands of Ramsay Bolton were painful to watch, even though Theon had become a very unlikable person and some might say deserved what he got. Alfie Allen is a remarkable actor and I hope now that I like his character again they won't kill him off!
I think Theon is on borrowed time. Theyll certainly kill him off in the next few weeks, I think.
I applaud the deaths tonight and look forward to Ramsay and Walder Frey getting theirs. It should also be interesting to see what happens to Ser Alister (?) and Ollie.
Snow!! I knew he was coming back from last season as the producers only said that "he's dead" vs. "he's dead and not coming back to life," etc. Good job, Melisande! I believe in the old gods and the new
Well, I'm relieved about the dragons. The writers must have known I was worried.
