Wow you're way out of touch man it does not work that way at most companies at all. This is a spoon fed corporate line of bs all the way. Huge lol. Just for starters - hearing it isn't worth *&$#. Show it by giving someone a real raise not some 2 percent that equates to just about nothing.

Hnsq is so far detached from what actually happens in reality that its actually kind of unbelievable. He sounds like a corporate line towing parrot who reads a few metrics, sits in a few board meetings, and pushes down decisions to people who have to actually deal with them.

Then how do you explain the poor work ethic of the well paid union workers (working just the very minimum of what is required of them)? Especially the longtime ones protected by their seniority.

Same concept, they have no motivation. Its just coming from a different angle.

LOL you are so far off the reservation at this point you couldn't find your way back with a map.

He's not off the reservation. He's playing stupid on purpose. Basically he's being condescending.

If you want to pay as little as possible and not offer any perks, good raises, or opportunities - you get back as little as possible.

My nephew was working at a store making 300 dollars a week, he got a better job and asked me how many weeks notice do I give?

I told him none, quit, for 300 dollars a week, they are not buying loyalty.

He took my advice, had a few days off and is now working for a much better company, more money and benefits...

if a company does not give their employees any incentive or perks, they sure as hell ain't getting anything in return.

Where did you get this ridiculous garbage from? My ex boss had been in professional environments for decades, was in her mid 40's with an MBA, and I cant imagine she was making much more then 50k.

My ex boss a couple jobs before that, CFO, CPA made 79k, and had been a CPA for over 20 years, and with the company 10, and was in her 50's.
While I don't want to get in the middle of this, if someone has been in a professional environment for over 20 years with an MBA and is only making $50K/ year...there's something wrong with that picture. With an MBA and years of experience under her belt, if somebody offered me a $50k/ year salary I'd tell them to pound sand.

And I've never heard of ANY CFO that makes under six figures. With that much experience as a CPA and the additional responsibilities of a CFO, I'd laugh at any offer under the six figure mark.

In my opinion, either the companies you're working for are lowballing the hell out of their employees or the employees don't realize what their skill sets can command in the corporate world. I believe the CPA's we have in our firm make in excess of $70K/ year and the CFO makes many, many times that.

I think you're over-reacting. Who says this guy doesn't want to work? Who says he won't work hard and do the best job he can while he's at work? He could have phrased his questions a lot better, but this guy probably has a family, maybe he wants to travel, enjoy hobbies. There's more to life than work.
