Because many were rural, had no means to leave and no place to go. Countries such as the US kept their doors closed.

The Netherlands aren't tolerant? They hate Moroccans? To everyone who keeps mentioning that The Netherlands are tolerant with social issues but intolerant when it comes to people of different ethnic backgrounds are forgetting the difference in cultures of the US/Canada and Europe.

Europe has culture that has been established for over a thousand years now, French/Dutch whichever it is, have distinct cultures that are threatened by the mass migrations of North African/Arab migrants. And what I mean by "threat" is change. These countries don't need change, they're rich in their own history.

The reason why the US appears to be more tolerant to ethnic migration is because the country is built on immigrants. US culture isn't as distinct as the culture of various European countries.

With that being said... Rotterdam, which is the second largest city in The Netherlands has a practicing Muslim mayor, he is also Moroccan. Pretty tolerant, no?

i would see the onus on the immigrant morrocans to change and assimilate into dutch society , europes mistake was to go for the multi cultural route rather than the american assimilation road , the uk is becoming a mess due to this , many people of south asian origin do not identify with the uk at all

Maksud

Asian Arabs do not have any problems anywhere in the western world, in part because they are also "western". Problem is with North Africans, but not will all North Africans. Problem is with North Africans from the countryside that are salafists. For example, if some professional Marrocan from Rabbat comes to the EEC, he won't have any problem because he will have another attitude and and he won't let salafists imans brainwash him.

People don't have a crystal ball. They did not know back then than an Austrian ex-caporal would conquer all Europe and would try to exterminate all Jews.

When people found out in the 30's...all countries closed doors, beginning with the US. You can read about the conference in Switzerland in 38?

Diverse doesn't always = tolerant. The US is more diverse than Sweden or Holland but the latter are more tolerant imo.
