I walked past the Harrahs in New Orleans daily for a week back in January. The most unsightly thing was all the bird poop on the ground. It never seemed seedy or anything. Certainly no more than Bourbon Street. Went to the same conference I did here in Atlanta 2 years ago and got panhandled far more in downtown Atlanta than in the CBD or the French Qtr. Only got panhandled along Canal Street and I can't blame the casino for that. It really had no impact on me or anyone else while down there.

But there it is. I don't think you'll find many people that like casinos in their own town. Casinos are windowless bunkers because they don't want you to notice you just spent 12 hours inside drinking and smoking and losing money I think.. (I am Surprised the NOLA one is smoke free? That would seem to be most of their demographic!) I mean I actually enjoyed the business trips in Vegas. I even won 40 bucks at the end of it all! But I can't imagine living near the strip. Maybe the lobbyists will make it only for ATL next year. Wouldn't you all up in ATL like to be able to continue to enjoy beautiful Jekyll and the Islands like they are now? Imagine if Jekyll had casinos! All the cigs and beer bottles on the beaches and paths and stuff..loud music and blinking lights at night..
Hell, no. Keep the casinos out of Atlanta.

panhandlers aren't the casino-going type. Now... drug dealers and human traffickers? Definitely. Maybe those groups don't directly have an impact on you. But a stray bullet sure could. Or a junkie breaking into your home because they spiraled down from gambling to drugs. As well as extra taxes for a bigger police dept. Better believe casinos are funded enough to make sure they get all the tax breaks they can (i.e. basically not paying any). If everyone wants to improve education funding and that is a personal priority, I encourage you to consider President Sanders. Or even Clinton. Or you could go with Trump to 'eliminate the Department of Education' because it saves a tiny sliver of the budget but looks good and all that.

Central Atlanta Progress publishes study on downtown casino
Downtown Atlanta group

The report concluded that the majority of visitors would be locals, not tourists, and that spending in casinos could “cannibalize” spending that might have gone to nearby restaurants, museums or concert halls and in turn undercut other state and local tax collections.
NO to casinos in downtown Atlanta, we need to build a neighborhood not a tourist-only area.

Who paid them off to say that?

With that dumba$$ article and dumba$$ thinking.... why not get rid of the Hawks and Falcons since the money spent at those games could be spent at museums, restaurants, bars, etc? Why not close down the ferris wheel since that money could be spent at the Waffle House nearby?

So they really think that with our annual visitor count of 46 million people that more people in the metro area of 5.5 million people will visit than the 46 million people visiting? GTFOH

We need downtown to be a neighborhood, not a place just for workers and tourist. Building a casino would just exacerbate the problem.

That doesn't make any sense. Metro Atlanta is around 8,376 square miles which is mostly neighborhoods but its bad to have 1 square mile catered to tourist smh. So enhancing the area in which most tourist see when they visit Atlanta is bad because its a casino lol smh
