"A recent study by an influential downtown Atlanta business group, however, said most visitors would be locals, not tourists, and that spending in casinos could “cannibalize” spending that would have gone to other local businesses and events."

BS

"Allan Vella, president and CEO of the Fox Theatre, asked Murren what MGM would do to protect existing destinations. Vella said casinos often need musical acts and other events to help draw traffic, and can pay more than nonprofits such as the Fox."

WTF

"David Marvin, CEO of Legacy Ventures, which owns several downtown hotels and restaurants, said he is undecided on casino gambling, but has reservations about a resort siphoning business from existing downtown attractions."

But he was ok building hotels taking business away from other hotels

A poll commissioned by the AJC in January found 62 percent of registered voters in Georgia favor legalization in Georgia to support HOPE and other education programs.

The only way I would be ok with a casino in Georgia is if we get a LOT of tax money out of it. More than any other state has received. Tax tax tax! These people don't provide any value, we are fine with out them. They do nothing and make money. If they want to come here and suck up all this money, they're gonna have to give up a whole lot more of that booty. LOTS OF BOOTY. I'm being serious, unless Georgia gets more than any other state, I don't want it.

So the 4000 jobs, construction jobs, HOPE money, $1 billion Atlanta license, $200 million in new state tax revenue, bringing real restaurants/shopping downtown, 100% funded by them unlike other new stadiums, etc isnt enough?

Stop being against one sin but not being against other sins
Entertain the possibility that some people oppose casinos for reasons not based on morality. I don't want a casino in my city because they are trashy, and suck money out of the local population while contributing very little to the city outside its windowless walls.

There's a healthy market for hotel rooms, convention space, and entertainment venues in Atlanta. MGM isn't going to bring anything good to Atlanta that it couldn't get without a casino.

Sounds to me like the same group of people who are against legalizing gambling in Georgia are also the same folks against things like legalizing recreational marijuana. Marijuana alone is a billion dollar industry. There are ways to pay for roads and education but it seems the powers that be would rather stay with tradition then explore alternative means, that take some of the burden off tax payers.

Colorado's Legal Marijuana Industry Is Worth $1 Billion

I see you never been in a real casino before like in Vegas

BTW I dont even gamble. I'm cheap!!

Funny how people like to pick and choose "sins"

They are for smoking weed and/or alcohol sales but are against casinos

I would imagine all of that is just a drop in the bucket for them. We don't need them, all they are doing is tapping into a resource. We, the people via the gov, should benefit as much as possible from this. If it's not a good deal for the casino, it's no loss for us. Take it or leave it.

And why in the hell are people scared the casino is going to take $$$ away from their business???

If your arse would have built a world class establishment and not half ass stuff you would have to worry about them. Competition is good. Step it up local businesses. Stop building bull**** and then getting scared when a real developer wants to come and bring us something world class

What the heck are you about?

"I would imagine all of that is just a drop in the bucket for them." I see you never operated a business and had several employees before.

"We don't need them, all they are doing is tapping into a resource." Who is we? Is "we" the kids who arent going to receive money from HOPE? Is "we" the 4000 that would be happy to have a career at the casino? Who is we? 60% of the people said they are ok with a casino in Georgia is who is we??

Why are you hating on different forms of entertainment? Just because you might not like it doesnt mean you are the spokesperson for the entire state. If you dont like it don't go. People are hypocrites. They are ok with tobacco/alcohol sales even though it kills hundreds of thousands of people annually but are against casinos. I don't smoke or drink but you don't see me going around telling people not to smoke and drink.

"We, the people via the gov, should benefit as much as possible from this." Why should "the people" benefit as much as possible from this when they have to pay $1 billion for the license? If the state can't help the people with $1 billion then I don't know what to say
