Does it come with a heat pump option on the heater? Or is it strictly resistance heat for the winter? LOL. There goes the mileage.

It'd be nuts if Rivian sells 32K R1Ts especially if in its first year. That's an incredibly high base price without any of the fixings. Premium SUVS (no pickups yet) at $75K base would be like the BMW X7 and it'd be having a banner year if it sold 32K units especially since premium vehicles generally have profit margins per unit that are sometimes several times that of the non-premium equivalents. I highly doubt Rivian would be able to do that with their first vehicle. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would seem to be on the extremely optimistic side.

They did have job listings for heat pump engineers, but it's not clear if that'll be incorporated in these first production vehicles.

The other obvious problem is of course the price. It's in the $70-90k price range, which that's fine and there's a market for those things, but I'm not that market. Ford Maverick starts at $20k. Much more sensible if you just want a trucklett. Won't do off-road stuff or anything as it's a FWD hybrid, but if you just want something to take to the nursery to buy flowers and whatnot, the Maverick to me is a lot more compelling than the R1T. To be clear, I really can't afford a $70k vehicle anyway and even if I could I couldn't justify the extra $50k for a Rivian. When they cut the price in half though, I'd be interested.

The thing tows 11,000 pounds. It's as real and capable as any half ton out there.

If you need to tow a fifth wheel camper across the country, no, it isn't the vehicle. But then, neither is an F150.

But how far will it tow 11k lbs? That's the big question.

I'm betting there is an e truck nich. They might not get respect of the other truck owners like those that own Honda Ridgeline. But they'll have their following

An F150 Max tow capacity is 14,000 pounds. My F150 max tow is 12,700 pounds with an available payload of over 2,000 pounds.

I can travel right at 400 miles with this load before refueling,......and the most important thing.....my F150 LOOKS like a pick-up!

Good, I hope all the suburban knowledge workers buy the Rivian, so I can get an F150 at a reasonable price.

Another reality is, anyone who has 11K to do, generally does not do it with small(er) things. The OEMs are too quick to engage in flopping the johnson up on the table but when things go sideways (literally in this case) its always worse and un recoverable in smaller vehicles. in my state, 10K lbs is the max trailer you can pull without a class A non commercial license. Easy to get but most dont and the pinch is pretty salty when caught.

The Ford Lightning will smoke the R1T in sales simply because they have a built in audience..........FORD TRUCKS #1 type mentality. Plus it looks like a regular pickup so 90% of the buyers will drive it to home depot for 3 bags of mulch a year (that they could have stuffed in a Miata)
