You mean frappe? Frappes have ice cream, milkshakes don't.

- You go food shopping at Stah Mahkit
- You go skiing at Nashoba Valley and Wachusett Mountain
- You love it when Jimmy Fallon et al used to do Boston skits on SNL

.. ugh I thought I could come up with a lot more than that.

Does anybody remember "Lester Lightbulb"? I had the coloring book.

YouTube - Lester Lightbulb - Massachusetts Electric (1984)

Don't forget Leominster. (Lemon-stir)

And you know how to pronounce it (frap, not frap-pay).

My apologies on repeating "frappe." I must have skipped over it where it was mentioned at the beginning. I do think that "frappe" might be a better test of a real connection to the area than "jimmies." A lot of the ice cream places are local, so all over the place are neighborhood ice cream parlors where they use the term "jimmies," which makes it easy for newcomers to pick up on that. On the other hand, with all the McDonald's' and Burger Kings all over the place using the nationally common term "milkshake," even a lot of locals have picked up the use of the term "milkshake," so it's more likely that you have to have some longtime association with the area to be familiar with the term "frappe." At least that has been my observation. As I said earlier, though, the mileage you get may vary.

True about Flutie. He seems to have been popular across the country as a pro player, but it's more likely to be a longtime Boston-area resident who will think he's a giant of a star. Good observation there.

Wow, the memories. I left Boston in 98' - grew up in Hyde Park - survived the Blizzard of 78, but couldn't hang with the cold twenty years later. Thank you for the laugh! I sent this to my mother....couldn't stop laughing. The list is dead on!

"JIMMIES" have an interesting history actually, I did some research on them cuz i'm such a nerd

Jimmies were developed by Samuel Born, a Russian immigrant. He had a retail candy shop in Brooklyn, NY in 1923.
In 1930, one of Samuel Born's employees, James Bartholomew, invented the tiny hot dog shaped chocolate sprinkles. Born named them after the inventor's nick name Jimmy Bartholomew.
JIMMIES eventually made it to Boston in 1947 where Brigham's was the first to promote them.

So JIMMIES are originally from NY, Brooklyn New York to be exact

So now I'm wondering, do they call them "jimmies" in New York?

Speaking of jimmies, and the name Jimmy, another "know you're from Boston" memory would be going to movies at the old General Cinema theaters during the summer, and dropping coins into the collection boxes for the Jimmy Fund which they would pass through the audience before the show started.

Speaking of which, another sign of a serious Boston connection would be that it gets you right there a little bit when you find out that the Jimmy Fund and the Sox have the longest running association between a major league sports club and a charity.

And as for the General Cinema theaters, this one requires that you be in a moderately mature age group, but you've got some of the local flavor in you if you fondly recall, and still laugh a little at, the old lead-in to the previews and the feature presentation, with the moving schematic picture of a projector and that corny percussion beat . . . DIH-dih-dih-DIH-dih-dih . . .
