I would have loved to see Bill White win! I was very surprised that Perry one this one!

I almost had to go there for 8 or 9 days of training. I didn't get that job though.

If everyone wanted what California had - why do more than 10 million people live in NYC? They have cold weather, hot humid summers, little green space, crazy cost of living, lots of noise, no place to ride a bike for fun, etc.

I think California's open-minded-ness is overstated. A great example is San Francisco. It is no more open-minded than Atlanta (or Houston). They are no more tolerant of other views than almost any other large metro. Texas per se isn't closed minded. You guys think it is. Texas has a strong culture that binds people more strongly than in many other areas. But that doesn't mean they won't listen to new ideas. Is Texas as welcoming as California to people "no matter who they are?" Probably not. But Texas is not like the south governed by Jesse Helms.

When prices come down people will move to CA in droves? I have my doubts. People have to earn a living. Cheaper housing makes that easier, but they need jobs. I'll remind you that more Americans leave California than move in and it has been happening for twenty years.

Well said Texan friend! I have never seen as many non-tolerant closed minded people in my life except those few Texas haters on this forum. Very very narrow and shallow minded to the point of extremism. Pretty scary minds in people like that!

When you live somewhere, not just go there on vacation, you also have to consider the CA taxes, stupid regulations (gun control, global warming, plastic bag bans, happy meal bans, etc.), and millions of mexicans.
Gun control...good. WHo nees them in a civilized place? global warming...what will it take, Texas becoming an inland sea to believe it? Plastic bags...convenient but not good. Happy meal bans...ok, you got me there. Millions of Mexicans??? Racist much?

You forgot the ban on circumcision as another CA regulation in the making

You think you are living in a civilized place with humans who kill and torture and beat and rape and kick the little guy down? Who will steal cheat and lie to get ahead or to get drugs? Who will kill you to get your money to buy drugs? Who are predators against women and children and minorities? Real civilized isn’t it? You call California civilized so that justifies gun control....man o man I've heard it all tonight!

And a cop can shoot one in the back while down on his stomach and thats a real show of gun control!

You're jumping to conclusions. I didn't call Ca. civilized. America as a whole is civilized. Does that mean we don't have problems? Please, let's not be so naive. However the fact that we're not perfect is exactly the reason for gun control. We're civilized because we are able to sustain ourselves in large population centers and not have to hunt and gather our food nor fight off those who have us on their menu.

Tell me, what do guns do for us in this day? Just what exactly do we need them for unless we're in the wilderness which most of us are not?

A lot of people do hunt. I assume you are talking mostly about handguns? I recognize that hunting in SoCal is practically nonexistent. In other parts of the US, even NorCal, it's quite popular.
