As to the matter at hand, having been stationed in Texas twice I obviously chose not to live there in retirement, no state income tax notwithstanding, and I can joke about it with the best of them. But hate it? Why? It doesn't affect me and living there is an individual choice and decision.

I've no doubt Texas is attracting some CA industries, just as Washington state, Washington, D.C./Virginia, Tennessee, Colorado, Nevada and other states are. Many make them far more attractive for businesses to operate than CA does and CA has only itself to blame if even just one major industry folds its tent and goes elsewhere -- something the Legislature seems oblivious to.

When I worked in California's political/legislative arena I can't tell you how many bills I opposed because they were overly prescriptive and costly to private industry, and that was just in the health and human services sector. It was far worse in manufacturing and other venues. The same went for regulations.
The hatred you read here is purely an online, anonymous forum thing. I've seldom encountered in real life, some of the nonsense you can read here. It only takes a few people on the extremes of political and social thought to skew reality here. I lived in TX before too. Like you, I don't want to live there. Like you, I certainly don't hate TX. I'm in CA purely because mother nature likes it better than TX. I'm not here because of the CA government, I'm here in spite of the CA government.

That's an honest appraisal I disagree with you about the government but appreciate your point that living in California is just too nice to let elections ruin it. Some Republicans on this forum are planning to leave California however; so be it!

Look at this:

Homosexuality – We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown
of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the
fundamental, unchanging truths that have been
ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin)custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.

Texas Sodomy StatutesWe oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.

Pornography – We urge our governmental bodies to enforce laws regarding all forms of pornography. We urge more stringent legislation to prohibit all pornography including virtual pornography and operation of sexually–oriented businesses. We oppose the sale of “Not Rated” (NR) movies and video games to minors.

Morning After Pill – We oppose sale and use of the dangerous “Morning After Pill.”

Age of Consent – We support raising the age of consent for consensual sex to 18 years

Energy Strategy – We encourage a comprehensive energy policy that allows more development of domestic energy sources and reduces our need for foreign energy. Energy policy should be cooperative, economically viable, and environmentally safe, but not restricted by overzealous environmental activism.

Self-sufficient families, founded on the traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman

The sanctity of human life, created in the image of God,

Im curious to know what happend to all of the people who are in the middle and not conservative or liberal on CD.

Why does it seem so far fetched that a person could be unhappy with both California's spending habits and also Texas' need to force religion into everything? I know I fall into that category. For me, if it werent for California's bad economy, I wouldnt even be in Texas. Now that Im in Texas, Im finding some things I like and some I dont, but Im not a black and white person. People have to see shades of grey. You dont have to love or hate everything in a state.

I'm a fiscal conservative yet a social moderate which puts me pretty much in the middle between the two major parties, neither one of which I belong to. But we sure get drowned out by them. Could that be the problem after all?

I'd say that California's legislature spends like drunken sailors but that would be an insult to drunken sailors everywhere!

Goodness knows those of us with some maturity are not just aware of that but all too aware that it's a recipe for ignorance.

Perry reminds me of a story my father told me about a Texas Lawyer who attempted to tell the truth but it swelled up in his throat and killed him. According to him, not one has tried since
