I've been around guns all my life and I don't think twice about it until now when someone is trying to void me of that security. I was raised on a farm, carried for quite some time in my profession and as you, have never had to use it. There are times though that if I wasn't armed I would have felt pretty vulnerable.

I won't carry into a store but while I'm in the Desert and the border is in sight I will. If my big bad gun makes some scaredy cat tough No one in the Country even flinches when they see guns.
I beg to differ ... I do.

That said, I am not arguing against guns, or permits to carry even. I just flinch ... I have used guns "professionally" ... didn't like it one bit ... here today because of it, I suppose ... still don't like 'em anyway. If I'd a been smarter, I wouldn't a gone where boys play those games. Guns are stupid and nasty. They are also a part of life and, as a 10,000 year old Taoist anthropologist, I accept the realities of human nature. Left to my own devices, I prefer a good quality atlatl:
The Atlatl and Dart: An Ancient Hunting Weapon
though all the many forms of hunting sticks are fine:
Hunting : Throwing Stick, Bolas

I prefer the long bow but I'm more efficient with a compound My son and I made a legal blow gun that uses a foot bellows that will sink a nail into wood more than an inch at 40 yards. We are still trying to get a rabbit with it.

I can only aspire to be as brave and mentally tough as you some day. Until then I'll hedge my bets and carry. By the way the guy that was killed before the woman was a fully grown man.

It has nothing to do with brave or tough, just experience, in 60 years of living and working and recreating in wild land, I have never been threatened by anything except one moron at the top of the cliff with a rifle. Your life is in more danger just driving to the store for a quart of milk than anywhere in the woods, millions of Americans spend time in the woods, un armed and without harm. In the past 100 years there have been three, 3 that is three, 3 fatal lion attacks in CA, far more people are killed by bees.

Please do tell how I can quit using my crutch oh chest beater.

Easy, leave it under the bed.

I'm not breaking any laws by carrying an empty carbine.

An empty carbine is a club. Carrying an empty rifle to protect oneself defies logic unless you are going to beat something with it.

It is my option. If I'm walking in at 3 am to a stand and come across a lion's kill he may move out he may not. Just because YOU have been lucky so far doesn't mean it can't happen to you. Drug traffickers are thick in these parts too .but your response will be to advise me to just stay out of the woods as you have repeatedly in the past. It's public land and I will do as I please but I want to hedge my bets.

I have never advocated staying out of the woods, but perhaps for fearful people they would be happier in town. The growers will know you are there before you know they are there, carrying a rifle to protect oneself from men with AK's defies logic.

Now remember, I usually am armed, sort of, the pistolo is in a saddle bag, unloaded, I have never felt like it needed to be loaded and used. It has one purpose and one purpose only.

I voted for Obama but not next go round. How you manage to inject partison garbage into every conversation is beyond me.

You gave a right wing answer, typical of rightwingers, what you want to get upset about is up to you. I find that those who feel the need to carry a weapon to protect themselves from all sorts of boogeymen are right wingers, being fearful is why they are rightwingers
