Remembering when Dilworth was a dangerous part of town and when there were boarded up and abandoned homes on Queens Rd.

Shopping at Richways in Northpark and Freedom Malls.
When those malls actually had customers from all over.
The Ice Capades at the old coliseum. On Independence , down from the light at Briar Creek.
Lane Bryant at Eastland.
Catherine's , Ivey's , and Belk downtown.
Shoppers actually going downtown to shop.
Lionel Toy Warehouse.
Record Baron , in the strip mall at Idlewild and Independence.
The aforementioned being a desirable area.
Charlotte Memorial Hospital
The old Carowinds sign(1986).
South Tryon dropping to 2 lanes after Tyvola.
SIDE EFFECTS!!
Grand opening of Carolina Place.
Junior High schools(all).
House Of Charles , and the commensurate jheri curls. My mother and aunts used to drag me there while they got their hair done!! The minimum wait was 8 hours!!
Park N Shop on Tryon and Sugar Creek resembling an arcade , until you went inside.

A few more:
  • If you remember Anderson's Restaurant (World's Best Pecan Pie, according to the sign) before it was a parking lot
  • You were having your 2 eggs and a meat at the Knife and Fork at 2AM when the Square dancers came in and took over the restaurant.
  • Shuffletown Dragstrip!!!!!
  • You shopped at Service Merchendise, and then had to wait for your purchase to come rolling down the conveyer belt for you to carry it out.
  • John Boy and Billy on 610AM, Big Ways
    • Battlestar Gastonia
    • Poultry Heist
    • Pass the Loot
    • Etc...
  • Bojangles was a single restaurant, and they made a fresh pot of coffee every hour.
  • Used to see Rick Flair, Rock 'n Roll Express, Magnum TA and other "Wrasslers" out and around town. Woooooooooooo! (I am not a wrestling fan, I'm just sayin')

You remember Dixie Electric, The Palomino Club, Zayre's, that arcade that was near the Regency Theatre on Albemarle Road, Lechmere.

This thread has brought back so many memories of being here since 1978.

Ate pizza at La Strada's on Central Avenue - first time I ever had deep-dish!

camped out for tickets in front of Grapevine Records

Went for nice dinners at the White Horse

You could climb on not just the train, but the plane and tank at Freedom Park - and go down the rocket slide

Skipped school to see Return of the Jedi at Charlottetown Theater

Saw Poseidon Adventure and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes at the drive-in on North Tryon

Went to the big water park/slide at N. Tryon & Eastway Dr.

Played Goony Golf or Putt-Putt as a fun date

Played Pac-Man or Tempest in the arcade at Eastland Mall, then went to Farrell's Ice Cream or Tuesday's (later called Annabelle's)

More pizza! The Olive Tree on Sharon Amity - garbage can pizza, yum

Read the Charlotte News in the evenings

Listened to Jay Thomas on Big WAYS, then WROQ

I miss the drop bucket at Carowinds works similar to at county fairs the Gravitron.
Also I miss Monorail. Instead of light rail lets build monorail again except have it go from
485 light rail stop to Carowinds. Carowinds and Fiesta shopping mall merchants could pay for it.
