loves: aborted babies are robbed of their free will; should we go ahead and do the same to the mentally challenged? After all, they can't use it. How about the dying and elderly?? Can you ask God to draw a line in the sand?
well, it you can't USE your free will, that's a moot point
Even the "dying and elderly" and "mentally challenged" can use their free will and in numerous ways!
But I am talking about true mental illness, the kind where the person is seeing things that are not there and hearing voices telling them to do horrible things. The kind where the person is so far removed from reality that they do not understand what they are doing.
loves: do we know if the mental illness is caused by: trauma? chemical imbalance? electrical "short circuits", demon possession?
There was a case of a "Spirit-filled" Christian who had been blessed with the gift of discerning of spirits (being able to see into the spirit world/identify unclean spirits). It was reported (and documented?) that he walked into a mental hospital and going from room to room identified and cast out unclean spirits from patient after patient after patient. As I recall entire wings of patients "returned to normal" and after a few days of observation, WERE RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL. Perhaps some "mental patients" don't need electric shock or a frontal lobotomy; maybe what they need is a Christian "electrician'"!
Playing along with the premise of the question, having only one question to ask God, I spent some time thinking about it. It turned out to be very comforting, encouraging, eye-opening, reassuring and brought joy to my heart!
I believe the scriptures. All that Christ has, I have, as His child. God has made every provision for me. When I lack knowledge and wisdom I ask Him for it. And He gives it freely.
So, knowing that I will be with Him for all eternity and, as the scripture says, "will know even as I am known," the one question I would ask God is this:
What's Your favorite color?
Because, in the meantime, I place my full trust in Him for everything. So, I would want to know something simple and personal about God just because I love Him.
manderly6: no, absolutely not! but I would exchange ideas and doctrine with them as a starting point
As a starting point of what? If you aren't open to what they are saying what are you "starting"?
