recognize that if Scripture nods to Hammurabi, you are dismissing the collected wisdom of mankind because of some *******s who do not understand it either, possibly.
Nothing in the Bible is perfectly clear to secular fundies.
if you can point out anywhere the Bible is perfectly clear on anything, then i can point out where your free will has been abrogated. A choice is always offered in Scripture.
And depending on the owners - the experience was not always bad... the slave was not always mistreated.
Those who diss the Bible do so out of ignorance of what is actually said in it. The Slavery in Israel was like indentured servitude and ended at a specific time. They were not slaves like in the Roman empire or even here in the USA. In some cases they could actually volunteer to be life long slaves, because of love for their "owners". This is an example of why even Christ's brothers are slaves of God. They want to be out of love for God. Unlike Adan who wanted to control his life. they want God in charge.
All I'm saying is that like most things in life... it's not all bad, and it's not all good.
Slavery is not a good option. But I am not ready to proclaim all slave owners as guilty of harsh treatment just because they are slave owners.
Being that many of the Jews did have a fear of God - they probably took that fear into how they dealt with their slaves.
I know this is challenging the programming put in our heads that any person for all of eternity who owned slaves is guilty of beating, raping, and killing their property.
It is NOT a question of harsh treatment, but the blight on the soul of BOTH the slave and the owner involved in chattel bondage.

Once again, you ignore the two kinds of "slavery" in force in Israel: the one you speak of is more like indentured servant, but there WERE many slaves like in the Roman empire and even here in the USA.
How can you ignore this when it has been demonstrated time and again?
