Great, now someone is going to say something equally stupid about a California 'invention' and add in some ridiculous snarky comment at the end, thanks a lot. Worst kind of posts, especially when they turn in to rabbit holes (which they often do).

Texas didn't invent the first artificial heart. The first artificial heart transplant in a human was done at the Heart Institute in Houston. Not exactly the same thing.

Houston is the largest city in Texas. Its also America's 5th largest metropolitan area. How that is irrelevant I have not a clue.

D/FW + Greater Houston = Metro Los Angeles

?

You stated Texas invented the first artificial heart, when in fact the first artificial heart was developed by a doctor in Philadelphia. Not Dallas, Greater Houston or LA.

As long as Texas' main priority is being the "cheapest and least tax-iest state in all the land", Texas will never compete with CA as the incubator and launcher of innovative companies.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Rice University ranks very well among U.S. universities, and beats out all the schools you listed except for Stanford and Cal Tech, according to USNews.
