Binghamton, NY or Huntington, WV?
Binghamton, both have seen better days but Huntington really seems to be struggling. Binghamton is out in the boonies but still in a scenic hilly area close to Ithaca, the Catskills, and three hours to NYC so not too isolated.

Glad you negged Peoria, LOL personal reasons...
Omaha, or Des Moines?
Omaha, been to both and Omaha seemed to have a lot more going on in its downtown and the Old Market has its charms, nice waterfront parks on the Missouri River.
Would freeze my you-know-what off in both, but I guess I would choose Pierre only for being close to the great scenery of the West AND being farther south with a little less winter. Edmonton is too isolated for me.
Allentown, PA...It's closer to NY and Phily. Both cities seem pretty similar for style of life/economy (not the greatest)
Austin, TX vs. Denver, CO
Denver. Better climate, transportation infrastructure (highways, mass transit and airport), and big city amenities, not to mention easier access to a wide array of world-class outdoor recreation. Austin has Denver beat wrt to water recreation, but Denver's a couple rungs above Austin nearly everywhere else (camping, hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc).
Tampa, FL vs San Jose, CA
