Very rough year in Vicksburg. 2 homicides this month and 1 last month. I'm assuming it's been 2 to 3 times the shootings there since the beginning of the year.
So two dead in Toronto (including the shooter) and 13 people injured after a mass shooting in Toronto. I have no idea what is going on but it's getting ridiculous over there now. It hurts me even more since I used to live there and I still visit frequently, and seeing this happening in a city I love is heartbreaking.
Has anybody posited a theory that American culture (specifically gun culture) has infiltrated Toronto and become popular there?
Everybody knows America is one of the most dangerous "developed" or "civilized" nations. And everyone knows gun culture is huge here, across racial and socioeconomic divides. Guns are so ingrained in American lore, maybe that influence has started to take hold north of the border?
This isn't "American Culture". There's a difference between a terrorist attack and a "regular" murder. Toronto has experienced two terrorist attacks this year, the van attack and now this mass shooting. Other shootouts, like the one where the rapper was killed in broad daylight last month, was street beef. That is more American thing, even though people have been killing each other over disagreements forever.
I don't think terrorist attacks should be included in the overall homicide rate for a city.

The huge spikes in 2016 and 2017 almost entirely impacted the bad areas on the south and west side as far as a surge in murders. .
This isn't unique to Chicago. You can carve out areas in multiple cities and get very low homicide numbers.
Just smh. 30 shot in last 8 hours this Sunday. Situations like this make it seem meaningless to talk about Chicago murder rate being down. The ridiculous amount of shootings and shootings victims is probably a bigger issue than the murder rate.
Mississippi is probably the worst state to live... Poverty, unemployment, crime, nothing to do, hot and humid, politics, racism etc... Everything is backward there.
