No. Al Gore invented the internet! But in NYC, "gravity" takes on a whole new meaning, cause it has so many more skyscapers than Chicago does!.......

Did we not already establish that you are wrong on this...? The area around Chicago did not want to be annexed by the city! If the city wanted to increase their profits from taxes, along with population, they had to build up. What part of this is so hard for you to understand. I could say the same thing for NYC. Once settlement began outside of Manhattan, they didn't need to continue building up anymore...BUT THEY DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-The city is extremely diverse. I don't want to hear you say it's the most segregated city in the Country, that was the past. It truly is a melting pot now.
-Visit Chicago in the Summer (FOR YOUR FIRST TIME!) and see the ethnic parades and festivals. They are amazing and attended by people of different ethnic groups
-Racism is virtually unheard of.
-The city is stunning, absolutely beautiful. It's extremely clean and for the most part safe (excluding a few areas). The Architecture is some of the best in the world, and even you know it.
-The Universities are amazing. University of Chicago, Loyola University, Northwestern University...the list goes on
-Amazing dining and theatrical plays. (The city is very artsy).
-Other stuff you can look up if you're so determined to prove me wrong.

...The city has international renowned magazines because it's an international city. Chicago isn't even close to New York on an international level. But you obviously don't know that the Tribune Company is one of the largest companies in the Nation. It even owns the L.A Times. Also, check your facts for the largest business district. The top two are actually Midtown Manhattan and Chicago.

Not even half. Which city could be a better example of sprawl? Which city had more reason to build up? Think genius, think.
...And this makes any sense or valid argument because...?

Chicago actually built vertically because of the stockyards and the confluence of trains. The thing is, in most situations, the town comes first, then becomes a city, then the railroads come in and the town grows bigger, but the downtown is already built- it just expands outward from there.

With Chicago, it happened like that and then, at the height of the railroad thing, it burned down. So when it built back up, the demand was already (no pun intended) sky high so they just started building tall buildings right away in downtown. The demand increased and increased, and by the 20s and 30s it was at a critical mass that is, at this point, self-perpetuating. It has absolutely nothing to do with trying to be like New York. Only the most provincial New Yorker could think so. The world doesn't revolve around the mouth of the Hudson, I'm sorry to say.

Salsa was invented in Cuba. You're really reaching now. As for Film and the Music Industry...want to prove that instead of just saying it. Oh and try to use something other than Wikipedia. I'll give you an example. Scientist from Chicago where the first to create a Self-Sustaining Controlled Nuclear Chain Reaction. http://www.cityofchicago.org/Landmar...teNuclear.html

Stand up comedy part II.

What makes Chicago "the best cosmopolitan city" in eyes of a Chicagoan:

Really? Why don't you take it up with Chicago Tribune then? It seems to have a different opinion about that:
Chicago, America's most segregated big city - Chicago Tribune
Anyways, all of American cities are extremely diverse today. Chicago is not unique here. Why would you call it the best cosmopolitan city?

There are ethnic parades all over the country, New York, LA, SF and most other cities.

Good one. Why don't you read that Chicago Tribune article again. The link is at the top of this post.

Even if I agreed, how does it make Chicago the best cosmopolitan city?

I think you are joking, the city has only a handfull of theaters and some boring Midwestern food but.... even if, how does it make Chicago the best cosmopolitan city?

Other stuff? Sorry, do not believe in stuff, just data.

No. You got it reversed. New York is an international city because it has international magazines, art, business and politics. Shortly, international presence and influence of which Chicago has NONE.

As everyone can see talking to a true Chicagoan takes a lot of strength....

Just an FYI that Trib article I believe is either a blog or editorial. However Chicago is one of the nations most racist cities or at least in my mind thats how I see it.
