Coastal

My ideal city has at least 6 months of 70F ocean temperatures and is within a couple of hours of good skiing. In Barcelona, you can get from the beach to skiing at Masella in 1 hour 45 minutes. Andorra is a bit farther. Baquiera Beret is less than 4 hours. You can get from the beach in Genoa to the Italian side of Mont Blanc in 2 1/2 hours.

At least in the US, a lot of river cities have an industrial look since shipping was/is a base of the economy, which I like.

A lot of cities along the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers are like this, but in the PNW, NW Portland is an example (and towns west of it along the Columbia River like Longview, Cathlamet, Astoria).
